Walking slowly is a great strategy but don't forget to breath in slowly and exhale deeply. the shortness of breath is probably caused by the hyperinflation of the air sacs. So exhale to the fullest that you can, then slowly inhale. Also might want to check with your physician that you are setting the flow meter at the right amount for your condition.

@kndaustin71 I find I stool hold my breath, when walking. I try hard to remember pursed lip breathing.

Yes, that happens to me all the time. I have to turn my oxygen up on my POV and it’s still really not enough.

@romoney1 The pov I had gave me more oxygen is a setting of three than it did on 6- At the highest number ( which does not represent liters per minute). The machine just takes in and blows you more outside air . None of them can produce over 3 liters. Per minute . When I see the adds for these, I cringe. These people should be informed about truth in advertising .

I’m fine wearing my O2 and walking. I just have it in a backpack and wear it on my back. If I’m going to go up an incline or stairs, I need to go slow and/or crank the O2 up to the max of 6 instead of leaving it at 3.

Do you have a tank or a portable that you crank up to 6?

I’ve got a Inogen One g5. I’ve never had a gaseous tank but for a time did have wonderful liquid O2 and a reservoir (which was regularly refilled) and a small “tank” (really a thermal container). It was a great time but unlikely to be available to me again in near future.

Even when I did 6 minute walk test, had to crank my O2 on my g5 up to 6 toward the end of the test as my heart rate was getting very high and my O2 level was dropping.

@crystalena Yes, the InogenOne G5 max is 1.6 Litres when the setting is on 6, according to Inogen's manual. Even doctors think that the 6 setting means 6 Litres. Amazing the amount of misinformation out there.

I use a walker to carry my purse and oxygen. I can hardly breathe if I have to carry them. Like you I noticed that the grocery carts helped so I got a.walker. I have a 3 wheeled one that I keep in my car. It only weighs 11 pounds so it is much lighter than my 4 wheeled one that has a seat and a bag but it weighs enough that I can not lift it without a struggle. I have aa old type that you fold up but had no place to put your oxygen. I found a table top on Amazon that fits on the type of walker. It can be taken on and off and folds in half for easy storage. I used to keep that one in my car before I got my 3 wheeled walker. It is handy to eat on or just use around the house. Hope that helps someone. I can walk just fine but not carry stuff and breath.

I wrote long comment but it does not seem to be here. I very short comment is use a walker! . Not to help walk just to carry. I have a 3 wheeled one I keep in my carry. It only weighs 11 lbs. I have 4 different types so I can go anywhere.

@linda86 I have a basket on mine my son put on and oh how awesome when walking around. In house different things I have to put away can all go in. Laundry basket can go on top, Cell phone which I am never ever without incase something could go wrong. Rescue Inhaler. Have one by the bed, one walker, one office. When one gets low then it replaces a lower one for example. I have vertigo and can tell when it will start so quickly take a Benedryl and all gone so Water bottle in basket. Joe put a piece on one side which swivels and my water bottle can go in there will fold so out of the way of doorways. I am blessed with him as he is so clever. Has done a few things to make my wandering around easier. If I am going out my purse and Port 02 go in the basket. When I get to a store the water bottle purse and Port 02 in basket. I always have the vertigo pill in 2 little screw cap canisters that hang on the 2 zipper pulls. I am armed and dangerous LOL He drops me off at the door after getting me a cart and transfering the items to its basket. Wind the purse strap handle which comes apart around the carts basket so it can not be lifted when my back is turned. Yes incredibly spoiled He lives 7 minutes from me.
