@nodreams the jaw pain is the worst , the dang dentist that made the splint that was wrong ( I was told ages ago there is arthritis in the jaw ,) started it , after all the years of me having tmj and little problems with it now ............ the pain. and on top of that all the other issues with arthritis worst thing is there is nothing I can do about that dentist.

the rheumatologist yesterday sorta made me feel guilty about not being on sulfa drugs ( I am allergic to sulfa ) re the hydroxychloroquine he wants me to have have some more eye tests ( wonder what they will cost) if my eyes are ok I can go back on the hydroxy. Will be another 6 months before I can see him again hes fully booked I have inflammatory arthritis (I think he called it ) which includes rheumatoid, I also have osteo in my knees ( explains why I cant kneel on them)

@tisme Hmm...that seems odd. There are many meds out there for RA other than sulfasalazine, I wonder why he didn't suggest options.

@tisme My rheumatologist told me there are over one dozen "older" drugs out there in addition to the high cost injectable ones. We are working our way through to find the best fit for me. It is very individual, and also depends on what else your body has thrown at you, and what other meds you take.
Like you, sulfas are a no go for me, and I also have some heart meds and Bronchiectasis and asthma in my lungs...

@jw9 Thank you. I recently read three books by Atul Gawande describing his years as a resident and surgeon. Lots of examples where things went right or wrong and I decided medicine is as much art as science. These books are not difficult to read and understand. The final book is Being Mortal and anyone of "an age" should find his philosophy insightful.

Hello, I really appreciate your post! I love to read and one of my favorite subjects is any kind of applied philosophy, as in this case with medicine and mortality. I wrote down the info and look forward to finding these books. Thank you for adding a positive dimension to our lives with chronic disabling illness.

@jw9 Thank you. I find the writing style to be very clear and not distressing despite some of the examples. Helps to understand the other side of the examining table and what emotions doctors feel.
