Has anyone had success taking Alpha lipoic acid for neuropathy?

Has anyone had good results taking Alpha lipoic acid for neuropathy caused from Chemo (CIPN)? A fellow patient told me she didn't have neuropathy anymore and when I asked why, she said she was taking Alpha lipoic acid. I bought some and after getting approval from my oncologist, started taking 2 a day, the recommended dosage. When I did research to validate the benefits, some info was positive while some was indifferent. I honestly think it's working. It's been about 2 weeks. I will suggest if you do start using it, take it with a soda. I tried water, milk, after a meal and I had heartburn so bad. When I decided to take it with soda I had no heartburn at all. Dr Pepper works for me and I take it on an
empty stomach with my regular morning meds. I was just curious if someone had any positive feedback. Thanks

@indywoman Pure or Toniiq on Amazon are reputable brands. I take 1500 of R-ala oked by a neurologist.

@debbieod I’m on a thyroid pill and learned that this interferes with the thyroid hormone if taken. I’m wondering if anyone else is taking this who has thyroid issues and if their levels have been off because of this.

@tessie63 I take thyroid med too. Oncologist is one who put me on it and she's the one who said I could take the ALA. Supposed to take thyroid meds at night.

@carol1024 Thank you for the quick reply. I take my thyroid pill in the morning. Maybe I should check with my doctor to see if I could take ALA. It seems my thyroid goes out of whack every couple of months now so I’m always doing blood checks and that’s why I’m concerned.

@tessie63 I took all mine in the morning too. After I started the thyroid meds my oncologist made the remark that my thyroid levels were off. This was before any ALA. She asked if I was taking my thyroid meds and I said yes. Well, I had one of those wellness virtual visits through united health care with a nurse and going over my meds she asked when I took the thyroid med. I said morning and she said I should be taking that at night so it wouldn't fight with the other meds. Then I googled it. Coffee, cholesterol meds and several others interfere with the absorption of the thyroid meds. I gotta have my coffee in the morning lol so I'm to the point now I say the first pill to make it wins. 🤣

@carol1024 Thank you for sharing this info with me. I’ve been taking it in the morning for years so I’ll check into this with my doctor for sure.

I have been using Alpha LipoicAcid along with Vitamin B-12 with good results for my peripheral neuropathy in my feet. Has helped with numbness and lack of sensation when walking. Still working on balance by doing PT.

Hi, may I ask what brand (and mg) of Alpha LipoicAcis and Vitamin B-12 are you taking? It's great that you are having good results!

@janekwick the only reply asking for a brand, I posted a picture of. I've since deleted it but it's HMS brand from Walmart. 60 capsules, 300mg. It's in a red bottle
