AUS activation and riding a bike

Posted by denkea @denkea, Dec 1 5:46am

To those who've had an AUS implant. Did it take a while after activations to get used to it? How much of a learning curve was there?
How long until you were very comfortable with it?
Also were you able to ride a bike after, or how long after, the implant.

Thanks in advance.

I guess the only hassle is you have to use both hands one to hold the tubes going into the device so you can press on the lower control pump part. My urologist even gave me a sample control pump you press and the instructions For how to use it. I’m probably going to be able to get mine put in in February. The cards that came attached to the sample control pump include the instructions for how to activate and deactivate it. The urologist said that you only have to press that control pump once, But I’ve read from other instructions that you have to press it more than once, I’m not sure since I don’t have one yet. I guess you could confirm that in another two days.

I know that somebody else that I talked with that had one said that he was able to do it with one hand, I guess it takes a little bit of getting used to.

I had it activated yesterday around 11:00a. It went smoothly and I couldn't be more happy as the day wore on.
I guess there's a little apprehension at first but it's been 24 hour and all is good. I Even golfed today.
I'm sure when you get yours done it'll be the same.

After the activation you can feel that the bladder is full from the pressure . Hold the tubes and squeeze the pump and the bladder empties . I still leak some urine so I wear a pad but not at night. Yes I have had some pain issues with the AUS . Mainly the cuff from pressure being put on it from sitting on hard surfaces. And some pain in scrotum with the pump . It’s a foreign object in the body. But considerable dryer and happy I had the surgery. MY surgeon said absolutely no bicycle or motorcycles with the AUS. A friend of mine in late his 70s had the AUS last year and completely happy with it.

Well, not yet. But i'm not sure that I will at anytime either. I'm sure that some may be able to just stand there release their bladder and let loose.
I'm not that lucky. Maybe when I was 40yo. The way it is set in my scrotum I have to direct my target spray with one hand and with that one hand stabilize the bulb. Then with the other I can squeeze the bulb.
But, regardless, I am beyond thrilled. It has opened up a brand new positive segment of my life.
Now, I just gotta hope the Nubeqa and Orgovix keep doing their part.

Oh and BTW. My doc says riding a bike is OK as long as I have a seat that puts all the pressure on the sit bones and none on the perineum.
I have one ordered that is adjustable wider or narrower as needed.
I hope it works as advertised.

Orgovyx is an ADT pill. Most ADT is done by injections, Drugs like Lupron, Eligard Firmagon and more. What they do is drop your testosterone to below 20 at least, Usually lower. That stops the prostate cancer from growing.

Nubeqa is an ARPI drug. It is used to keep the PSA low, Even if there is testosterone in the system. It works similar to apalutamide and Enzalutamide But has fewer side effects. Zytiga Is the one other ARPI Drug and its purposes to reduce the testosterone to below five.

@jeffmarc Thanks for your reply. I thought maybe they had something to do with the AUS. Wishing you all the best!

Thanks. I was riding 7 miles a day on a Schwinn Airdyne (upright stationary bike with arm movement) and would like to get back to that. I even bought a new seat that is adjustable so that I ride with pressure on my sit bones and zero pressure on the perineum. Curious as to others experiences.

@denkea where did you get the bicycle seat and what is the name and type?
