Posted by goldilockszone @goldilockszone, Apr 26, 2023

Anyone experienced bleeding from small intestine before?

I have intermittent bleeding and doctor diagnosed it as dieulafoy lesion in jejunum. On soft diet and I am worried on whether I can lead a normal life again.

@shellylynn123 - hi, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. From what I understand, jejunal Dieulafoy's lesion is quite rare.

Here is an article from four years back that gives a good summation, at the medical professional level, of this condition in Journal of Investigative Medicine High Impact Case Reports:

- Jejunal Dieulafoy’s Lesion: A Systematic Review of Evaluation, Diagnosis, and Management https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/2324709620987703

What level of bleeding have you experienced from this so far? Have you had it formally diagnosed? If so, how is it being treated?

It started 6 years ago. I’ve had 5 episodes. So once a year I will bleed and have to call 911. I end up bleeding for about five days and usually get about two blood transfusions. My stay in the hospital is about seven days. I have had five colonoscopies five endoscopy for pill cameras, and just last week. I had a double balloon enteroscopy. UCLA diagnosed me with the dieulafoy lesion. I am struggling because I don’t know how to live my life without being scared every day that it’s going to happen. I’m looking for either a support group or somebody that has had this diagnosis.

The bleeding started when I was taking 800mg Ibuprofen everyday for a jaw pain. All results came back with no findings.
