Neuropathy and leg cramps
I have burning and tingling in my feet which has gotten steadily worse over the years. I mostly notice it at night after getting into bed. Some nights they are on fire, other nights it's not too bad. I have never been to a neurologist. But I also suffer, and I mean suffer, from nocturnal leg cramps. The PN website notes muscle cramps/twitching as a symptom of neuropathy. Does anyone else experience leg cramps along with the neuropathy? I am desperate for a solution as I have tried many things. Magnesium at bedtime; epsom salt soak; magnesium oil with massage; stretching; exercising/not exercising; nervive; capsacin creams. Nothing always works, so I don't know what actually can work; perhaps I haven't found the right combination?
I do take 30mg of amitriptyline every night for the neuropathy. Perhaps I need to check with my DCP about upping the dose?
Thank you for any help you can give!

@mrgirl Good for you! A little levity goes a long way. Hot or cold, maybe it is simply
an external temperature change that causes the muscle to relax. As for "walk it off" that coach is doomed to spend eternity on a stair stepper in hell.
I was told to take Vitamin B6. I don’t know why, but my cramps have almost gone away. I take it mid day and it will last throughout the night. Hope this helps.

I've read that B6 can help with leg cramps. Was it a doctor who told you to take it? If so, is he/she monitoring your levels? Too much can cause peripheral neuropathy (which many of us are trying to deal with!). It's easy to get enough B6 from a healthy diet that includes both animal and plant protein. Please make sure you're not getting too much!

1 ReactionUpping the dose is not a solution. It just masks underlying issues. I've Also been suffering with terrible leg cramps along with neuropathy due to spine issues for over a decade. The leg cramps are deep and excruciatingly painful. I've done supplements also. The only one so far is a magnesium that has 5 or 6 different varieties of magnesium. It has helped alot with having them less often. Medical marijuana cream applied directly to the cramp usually helps within 30 seconds to a minute if i get it on right away. I'm so tired of our so called medical professionals not being able to connect the dots. Our bodies weren't meant to be broken up according to doctor specialties and insurance codes. Tired of having to see multiple providers who don't interact with one another to actually get a diagnosis. (too many hands in the soup mess up the recipe...
My 40 year old brother in law died from invasive aspergillus mold infection. Most providers in my area have never even heard of this! He was hospitalized for almost 3 months, had many surgeries to clean out the infection but died from a blood clot after
surgery to save his eyesight from the disease. Rest easy J.R.
Apparently medical schools, professionals, are severely lacking, unless you have alot of money to pay the actual doctors that want to cure people not just shove pharmaceutical in us to mask symptoms. Those doctors usually arent covered by insurance because they don't practice the bullshit system. Funny how most insurance, especially for poor people, does not cover massage, or Eastern medicine, or natural remedies. Wish I had been born rich. We never get proper diagnosis because they are trained to stick a bandaid on and move on to the next patient to make the most profit....sickening health "care". Sick of being bounced from one provider to another with no one paying attention to the body as a whole!!!!

1 ReactionI have leg cramps mostly at night. I'm thinking of trying to sleep in my Sweetflex compression leggings to see if that helps. I think they help during the day.

I’m curious. You call them leggings. Do they cover the whole leg like regular leggings or are they like knee socks?
Try 2 ounces of pickle juice when you feel the cramps starting.
Good luck.

I have heard that works!
@stuartlloyd
Yes. Pickle juice (I keep a jar in my fridge. ) Mustard. They both work to stop the cramping. My greater desire is to prevent them from happening. Still working on that. 🙂
