Withdrawal from gabapentin after 1 dose
I'm finishing up chemo for breast cancer. Have experienced some neuropathy in fingers and toes. Doctor prescribed once daily 300mg gabapentin and I have taken one pill and hour ago. Changed my mind about taking since it can cause diarrhea. The chemo Taxol caused epic diarrhea that I'm still dealing with. I don't want to take any gabapentin. Can I just stop after 1 pill?

I'm not a dr. I take 2400mg a day for two and a half years now and I've never had a problem. I think you should talk with you dr. to see if there's something they can substitute it for. I don't think theres any problem after just one pill. I would have a different course of action for myself. Good luck with everything!

5 ReactionsHey there @botterd, I would agree with what @oic said. I also take 2400/day (for years+ now) and have to wean down 200mg every 2 weeks if I want to get off it. However, just taking one pill you should not have a problem. Be aware that Gaba does come with withdrawal side effects, but that usually happens once you're on a sustained dose for a length of time, not after 1 pill. But yes, please consult your doctor and see what they say. Good luck to you, and so sorry to hear you are suffering so much 🙁

2 ReactionsI would not think that you'd have any effects whatsoever for such a low dose taken once. I'd like to add that I've been taking 300 mg per day for a couple years. It works really well on several types of pain, especially the neuropathy in my feet. I've never had any side effects or reaction when I skip. But I'm interested to see what others say. Thank you for posting this question.

1 ReactionNever had any digestive/ intestinal issue. Lots of brain fog. I took it once a night to sleep. I believe 300 mg Stopped without any problems It helped me at first but then it did not.
I certainly would.
@debbieod I use Gabapenten at night but only 150 mg. I refuse to take more. It can affect the memory after a while and after seeing what my husband went through with dementia and living in a care home here I never want that for myself.

1 ReactionCommon with anticonvulsants - another reason I want to get off Gaba!
I took gabapentin for over a year ... but took myself off it (my doctor had retired) after finding it didn't seem to reduce the neuropathy and left me with brain fog. I wasn't warned to be careful about stopping it abruptly. The brain fog has now lifted but my short term memory seems to be somewhat affected. I now wear fleece socks before going to bed to warm up my feet. This provides more relief than the gaba ever did!
