Has anyone had success taking Alpha lipoic acid for neuropathy?

Posted by carol1024 @carol1024, Nov 18 8:22am

Has anyone had good results taking Alpha lipoic acid for neuropathy caused from Chemo (CIPN)? A fellow patient told me she didn't have neuropathy anymore and when I asked why, she said she was taking Alpha lipoic acid. I bought some and after getting approval from my oncologist, started taking 2 a day, the recommended dosage. When I did research to validate the benefits, some info was positive while some was indifferent. I honestly think it's working. It's been about 2 weeks. I will suggest if you do start using it, take it with a soda. I tried water, milk, after a meal and I had heartburn so bad. When I decided to take it with soda I had no heartburn at all. Dr Pepper works for me and I take it on an
empty stomach with my regular morning meds. I was just curious if someone had any positive feedback. Thanks

@carol1024 May I ask what mg and how many times a day of the ALA-R you are taking. Can you recommend a brand name? Also you mentioned a tube of neuropathy cream. What is the brand name?
Thank you so much.

@indywoman I'm taking NERVE RENEW OPTIMIZER 300 mg stabilized R-ALA per capsule - 2/day. phone 1-888-840-7142. I have taken this R-ALA for years and it works. Good luck.

@antoniodoria I was taking 2 a day of the one that contained both R and S because it said to take 2. I'll ok it with my oncologist to take 2 of the R though because I do take several supplements.

Acetyl-l Carnitine is also recommended for neuropathy. After taking Alpha-lipoic acid for a few months I started getting mouth sores. I can tolerate the Acetyl-l Carnitine but attempts to use ALA for long periods of time doesn't work for me I guess. Disappointing as ALA was helpful.

I’ve been taking it for about 4 months and it has really helped me, too. I only take one capsule in the morning with water and wait 1/2 hour before eating anything. Two tablets gives me heartburn. Interesting that you take yours with soda.

@cboydb I was getting mouth sores from the chemo before I started taking ALA. They are better than they used to be though.

@indywoman Pure or Toniiq on Amazon are reputable brands. I take 1500 of R-ala oked by a neurologist.

@njed I take 600mg but take twice a day. Could be that and the cream I ordered. I am having amazing results with that. I'm getting treatment now and have given info to several people. One is too big but you can Google Dermavitality and get all info. It's for oncology patients.

@carol1024 I just received a tube of Dermavitality cream. Very "pepperminty " aroma. ; )
Can you tell us how long before you noticed some results? I don't expect instant results, but since you've had good luck, I was wondering how quickly I could see a change. Thanks!

@suzva it was only a few days. I put footies on after I put it on my feet. I made sure to get it between my toes and on bottom of feet. Let me know when you feel it working.
