Flashes and floaters after cataracts surgery and blurry vison
Did anybody have this experience?
I had both cataract eye surgery and OMNI glaucoma surgery for my left eye the same day in September 30, 2025. A month later, my vision is till blurry and floaters seem to fade but just few days ago I started noticed the return of flashes. My doctor ruled out a retina detachment. I went to seek a second opinion ,a retina specialist, and he said so far he has not seen the retina detachment but my vision is still blurry. Honestly my eye was better than before.
Any advice?
Thank you

@chrispie I am also not going back to the same place. They treated me poorly after my first surgery when I told them my vision was way too strong. I asked for them to correct my vision and they were all excited and said I would be able to see clearly without glasses. Well, in my one eye I can see to the moon I think, LOL... but not across the room to the TV it's too strong. When I told them this their answer was... "this surgery is to remove your cataract, not to make your vision perfect... and that's what we did"... I was shocked. They also told me after that appointment there was no need to return for further check ups... So I'm looking for someone else.

3 Reactions@juliannabeanie Sounds a little like the clinic I went to. I called twice and the doctor did not follow up with me for either call. At this clinic the cost for each eye was one thousand dollars, then an additional four hundred for using that surgery area. This had to be paid in addition to my medicare. I should have questioned it then, but I have a tendency to play down my gut feelings, sadly. The one thing they did state was that I would still have to use glasses to read. I use a simple cheap 125 pair from the dollar store. Now I have to use those glasses, make sure there is lot's of light, and then a magnifying glass. This is all a disgrace, and I should have stayed with the company I had been with for years. There are video's that were made by a tv anchor woman out of detroit, Michigan that committed sucide after the surgery. She was severely distraught over her postsurgery. I wish I had seen it before I got mine done. Maybe this all has to be looked into further? We have to chalk it up to a lesson learned, to always do more research and now follow up with a better doctor. Good for you for for it, but make sure you check the new one out very good.

This sounds like what happened to my eyes after cataract surgery 10 years ago and I have had many appointments afterwards asking questions about these things. I never got an answer. They keep telling me that my cataract surgery was a good one and my eyes took good. They did do a procedure on my right eye again a laser surgery but it did not help. and my eye got worse. I think that all these surgeries are not totally understood yet and they are just doing the surgeries hoping for the best results. They get good ones and bad ones. If you get any good information I would love to hear about your results.

Flashes and floaters?
Get into see a Retina Specialist ASAP!!! They can help preserve your vision if you don't wait too long.
Good luck.
@juliannabeanie I had the same problem after the first surgery and the surgeon said ‘it’s all in your head’ which technically is true! Went to a different surgeon for next eye and what a change he was so lovely and said the first surgeon had made me longsighted in one eye and short sighted in the other.. he sorted it out and it all calmed down .. all the very best to you

1 Reaction@shivey Wow, yes it makes all the difference having doctor that is more experienced. When my Retina began detaching, I had surgery right away at Kelloge Eye Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They did not have any laser type surgery then. When you are close up, you can see the cut on my eye where they went in and reattached the retina. My Doctor was, Dr. Cox. At that time everyone was saying what a great job he did. He later began traveling with Doctor's without boarders, and doing eye surgery world wide. I never had to wear glasses. I had great eye sight until I got older, then I have only had to use dollar store glasses at 125 strength. Saw a good Retina doctor every year for quite some time, until he retired and went into research. I was not careful enough when I chose to go to a clinic!

2 Reactions@chrispie sounds like a great outcome and eyes are so delicate and so complex
You are so right. I wish I would have thought it through more before going to the clinic, but I had just finished up with radiation treatments for lung cancer. I did not have my best thinking cap on at the time, smile. It is very hard to find good doctor's due to shortages, at least in my area. Take care of yourself, and God Bless!
@mslee56 Thank you so much! I am making an appointment this week...
@klancee47 - I went to another eye surgeon in our area and they were incredible!! They eased my fears for sure. So she looked at everything... dilated my pupils, checked my pressure... she said that as you age (I'm 57) we get "floaters" caused by vitreous gel in our eyes shrinking and liquefying, causing collagen clumps and cell debris to form shadows on the retina, appearing as spots or cobwebs... So my floaters and floating blurry spot is a result of aging... She said that eventually my brain would adjust to it and I probably won't even notice it anymore. I sure hope that happens soon LOL... But at least I know there is nothing seriously wrong.
