delayed Prolia shot

Posted by squid @squid, Nov 24 6:11pm

In June I had to delay a dose of Prolia by a month because I had a tooth extracted. I had the missed dose exactly a month late. I now have pain in my spine between the shoulder blades. Is it possible I could have had a problem in that amount of time because of the delay?

How long and how many injections of Prolia have you had. I would ask your doctor…my first thought is wouldn’t you have pain in your jaw or swelling first?

There is a new update on Prolia safety in Australia that rebound fractures can occur as early as 7 months after the last shot. Would see a doctor about the new pain, just to be sure.

Yes
The other post is correct. You have to get something to hold your gains…but if only had one dose that could be different…
It’s so frustrating when 3 different “expert” endocrinologists or Rheumatologists can’t agree on the answer to the same question. My husband has a medical background…he is my advocate…constantly testing the doctors knowledge…he’s not a doctor …started internship years ago but went into the arts instead. Our hospital wants to hire him even though he’s in his 70s!
These drugs were not around back then.

@daisylou Thank you so much. I checked with both my GP and dentist and my dentist won out. And what do I know? You have to trust the 'experts'.

@osteopatient2026 I started Prolia in December 2022, so I had had 5 shots before the tooth extraction. My endocrinologist retired last year and I don't have a replacement.

I had 6 Prolia shots. I was late in my 7th by just 4 weeks and ended up with 3 spinal fractures. So it's very possible you could have a spinal fracture.

@heusty Wow! That's pretty scary. And the 'experts' can't even agree so more proof that we really must be our own advocates. Have you found anything to help with your fractures?

@daisylou
I think this has been known for awhile.
“Prescribers should consider switching patients to an alternative therapy if treatment is discontinued.”
I think it’s more “must” now. You can start losing your gains and then some very quickly…a drug to help maintain your gains…I saw on a podcast of the 2035 world congress for osteoporosis that some doctors had to do as many as 4-5 reclast infusions to stop the loss

Rebound fractures from discontinuing Prolia is old news. The alert that just came out is that this problem happens as soon as 7 months after the last shot

@daisylou
That means you should get your next dose right on time. That 7 months makes it 4 weeks after you should have received your second dose or whatever dose (6 month) you are getting. There is some info about that in some links to videos I posted and this guy…
To transition off Prolia:
1. Start Fosamax or Reclast right after Prolia treatment (exactly 6 months after last injection)
2. Monitor your serum CTX level for possible dosing / redosing with Reclast…
Don’t really know but he seems to do his research pretty well.
