@noelles Thank you for the reminder of acupuncture. I've used it for many things but never constipation. i'll make an appointment today. I've been on a combination nightly of Miralax, Sennakot and an Chinese herb. I often have diarrhea which is preferable to me than being constipated. That being said, I still have times ( like right now) when I get constipated. I have struggled with this since I was five years old. Today I'm wondering how much of the pain I have right now is from the Miralax etc., and how much is constipation. I have ended up in the ER three times with extreme pain all three times to be told I have a lot of stool in my bowel. One time close to an obstruction. I am a vegan. I eat vegetable, oats, beans, lentils and some chocolate. Over my lifetime I have tried everything I hear talked about without result. Any fiber makes my constipation worse. I do take magnesium every night for general health. I feel kind of despondent about it. My most recent GI doc told me that what i'm taking is okay because it is pretty benign, but everything I read says the opposite. I get afraid I've damaged my motility and peristalsis. I really appreciate this place ot talk about it. i'm off to make an acupuncture appointment.

@juliefiona I am using a probiotic called Floracor-GI, recommended by Stanford for my grandson’s ulcerative colitis. Also Triphala, a natural stool softener. My GI Doc told me not to use solace

@juliefiona I am wary of theories that diet can solve serious chronic constipation, due to my experiences, however I can say that fat in the diet made a difference for me. I eat a healthy diet, but I noticed that after stubborn constipation a fried fish sandwich had amazing results. Now I eat healthy fats, but occasionally have a piece of fried fish or chicken.

I also discovered that my emotional health was related to my constipation. Distancing myself from a certain stress helped tremendously.

Sorry for your plight. But can a vegan avoid fiber? You’re backed up with dietary sludge. Hard to digest and loathe to move on down the canal. Yet TV commercial urge us to take in MORE fiber to stop constipation. Okay but drink a ton of water. I pray that this improves no matter what works.

@juliefiona i have found that loading up on fiber in an effort to go, can actually make things worse…blockages are painful, awful— and if they burst in the gut, that’s dangerous…i messaged my team when it felt quite bad and they got my resection surgery moved up a week..caught it before things went really bad. Our bodies tell us a lot ! Best of luck !

I have been taking MiraLAX every morning for three years now. One of my medications causes constipation. . My drs don’t have a problem with it. I have to be sure to drink lots of liquids and I do take extra fiber to. I am 70. juliefiona
