Hiking while on Orgovyx and Xtandi?

Posted by Roxy2017 @roxy2017, Nov 22 8:12am

My wife and I are avid day hikers. I started Orgovyx and Xtandi in March for Stage 4 low volume PC. I had radiation in May and came through with flying colors -- PC is in remission. I am supposed to stay on the drugs though till March of 27 as I had a Gleason of 4+4. One side effect of the drugs is that I wake up each day feeling like I had a hard workout the day before, regardless of whether I did or not. We would like to go to Machu Picchu in May and do some moderate to moderate/advanced day hikes. I am not sure whether I would be up to up it though. Thoughts?

While Xtandi works quite well It does cause fatigue for many people. I know quite a few people who have been on it and had that fatigue problem. A number of them switched over to Nubeqa And found that it was much better with fatigue And because it doesn’t pass the blood brain barrier like Xtandi It doesn’t cause as much brain fog.

I went from Zytiga to Nubeqa and all of the side effects I had went away. I Know a number of people over at ancan.org Advanced prostate cancer weekly meetings that I switched to it, and many are using it as their only drug.

Talk to your doctor about it. Xtandi is Enzalutamide and Nubeqa is Darolutamide And they work pretty much the same.

Be aware that Orgovyx Is also a culprit in this. It can cause fatigue for a lot of people. The combination of the 2 drugs makes it worse. You might find that switching to Nubeqa Helps a lot, but you are still on ADT (Orgovyx) and it has many side effects.

Thanks Jeff. Will talk to my Urologist about the possibility of switching drugs.

I did single therapy with Orgovyx and fatigue was present. I literally made myself get out of the chair and mountain bike ride even though I didn't feel like it. The payoff was I felt better for a few hours afterwards. Can't speak to double whammy therapy.

I had six months Orgovyx ADT during and after my IMRT + HDR procedure. I was hit with strong bouts of fatigue and occasional bouts of intense emotional reaction to some stimuli randomly but often during very hot days on the golf course. Thanks to the short course, I only gained about 5-8 lbs. while on ADT

Good news is these side effects largely disappear w/in 4-6 months of stopping the ADT.

I am Gleason 9 PC patient. I had SBRT Radiation Therapy at UCLA and on Orgovyx from April 1st 2024 until March 27, 2025(1 year). Fatigue was my biggest issue.
I was also an avid hiker. Now, I can only hike 4 or 5 miles on Rolling hills. I have a desire to go to Mach Pichu.
If you already did some research, can you share the tour company you selected or you are doing on your own?
Thank you and wish you the best
