Can Neuropathy be cured?

Posted by catstx @catstx, Sep 8, 2021

I’ve had P. neuropathy for 30 years. Just recently I’ve better controlled my blood sugar. So, I’m wondering if Neuropathy ever goes away, Or, if once the nerves are dead they’re just dead

My husband has numbness in is feet from spine surgery (3-2024). He says it is improving! States feet feel like they are sleeping all the time and gets worse as the day goes on! He is walking with a cane when we leave the house. Dr said can improve up to 5 years! Anything we can do to help this healing process along?

Hello @itlooksunny, Actually I think one of the things a lot of us with neuropathy don't focus enough on (including me!) has to do with a healthy lifestyle. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has a lot of great suggestions if you haven't seen them or are already doing them - https://www.foundationforpn.org/lifestyles/.

@itlooksunny ..Just a suggestion....I have suffered from severe Trigeminal nerve
pain (side of face) caused by a dentist. I have discovered thru my own researching on the Mayo Clinic site, a non-invasive nerve pain procedure called the Scrambler Technique. It actually scrambles the signal from the brain for pain...it's especially good for Neurpathy pain problems. I found a small clinic in Clifton, N.J. (CalmareTherapy) that I went to for treatment....there are also other clinics around the country that specialize in this treatment...it's 10 sessions..each session is about 30-40 minutes and totally not painful....check it out...I have now been pain free for about 6 weeks now....

Our nerves are coated with insulating fat called myelin. Vitamin B12 makes new blood cells AND new insulation for nerves MYELIN. B12 comes from eating plenty of animal protein. Most people eat too little. It's expensive. But eat heaps of bread instead .Get on a B12 supplement today.

@jamessaxo I eat meat with every meal I've ever had in my adult life. Lots of turkey and chicken, as well as pork and beef, pinto beans, potatoes, rice, and bread.

Older stomachs have less acid so we extract less B12 from animal proteins.
I take 25 micrograms B12 daily. Old fashioned mussels ( sea shell
fish) have 10 times the B12 as red meat. Eat them monthly.

We have to remember there are two (2) types of Neuropathy … caused by Diabetes and CIPN from Chemotherapy. Neuropathy from Diabetes, I’ve heard can over time be cured with Acupuncture … TENS … and other remedies. BUT …. CIPN Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy … as far as I know … in my opinion only …. There is NO CURE. Patience …. Hope …. and ? … Dave.

@3740 My neuropathy wasn't caused by diabetes or chemo, so there's more than just 2 causes of this f@cked up disease.

Not accurate. There are many many idiopathic PN “customers” not associated with chemo or diabetes. I am one of these people. Otherwise healthy, non diabetic, food conscious, active, in good shape PN suffering 69 year old, 4 years ago diagnosed with IPN. Been to many DR’s.
