Ativan tolerance

Posted by gmamrj @gmamrj, Feb 2, 2024

I have built up a tolerance for .5mg of Ativan that I have been taking at bedtime for 5 years. Refuse to increase the dosage
Could I substitute a marijuanna gummie for the ativan

My doctor retired and it was difficult to find another doctor who would prescribe Ativan for me. I did find one I love. Find an older doctor. The young ones are afraid of benzos.

is it for sleep or depression

Indica 5 mgs. really helps me when I’m having sleep issues.

Then your older one will die or retire and you’re in the same boat. It’s very difficult to get ongoing benzo scripts nowadays and only going to get worse.

He's only in early 60s and I am 78 so I think he will be around for awhile. Not too young; not too old.

I have been taking lorazepam for 7 years from 1 mg/day to 2/day down to .5/day last couple years. I got sick of it, especially when I took more occasionally and ran out early before refills. A couple weeks ago I just stopped in disgust with myself and now am surprised at how everything in my life has improved. Less anxiety, fewer palpations, more energy and endurance with aerobic exercise, and far better sleep. I am 77 years old. I hope I’m not in some manic state that will end soon, but I haven’t felt this well in years so will not go back to that awful drug no matter what. Sometimes no meds is the best medicine, I think.

@riverpark that is impressive with no withdrawal symptoms? And your anxiety has been in check? Just curious

Thank you. That is promising.
I hate this medicine.
Had trouble falling asleep last night after taking .5 mg of Ativan aroun 10:00 pm. That’s after only getting 3 hours of sleep the night before. I took one benedryl about midnight. Wow I slept so good. I know this is not advisable but I needed to sleep.

I don't see any risk whatsoever in taking Benadryl as a sleep aid if it works for you. There is some mention in various medical blogs and discussions that it could lead long term to cognitive decline in some people, but that is so unlikely with Benadryl because it has been around for many decades, given to babies, and so forth. It's safe as safe can be. I have been taking doxylamine succinate which is an inexpensive antihistamine labeled by Costco as "Sleep Aid". Now that they have announced that 95% of those who take melatonin as a sleep aid are at risk of cardiac issues, I've stopped tsking the 3 mg before bedtime. I can tell a bit of a difference by not taking it, however. But that 95% number is a real surprise.

Well, I'll hold out hope you can find no adverse reaction to taking Benadryl alongside your unfortunate optical conditions. I can see how you must be very, very careful as to what supplements you can risk taking.
