How many of you have tried Lyrica (Pregabalin) in doses from 600 mg?

Posted by ardeecor @ardeecor, 6 days ago

I have had Lumbar stenosis and cervical spondylitis for over 8 years. It hurts from a level8 to level10 pain at the worst times.
I have gone to over 10 pain doctors and they all kicked me out bcause I consumed more pain med than prescribed “because it hurts so bad”.
I got a new pain dr and he prescribed me a different time release pain med which I will pick uo tomorrow.

In the meantime I am taking 600 to 1200 mg of Pregabilin which helped me sleep. When I woke up today, my terrible pain had subsided to a level4.

I could suddenly walk a again without any stiffness.
No side effects. Does not make me high at all.

Check with your doctor. I assume no responsibility for any adverse effect someone may experience as a result of doing what I did.
CHECK WITH YOUR DR.

@ardeecor

My husband is 83, He took lyrica and opiods for years to treat lower back pain, and he has Alzheimer's, vascular dementia, Lewy Body and Parkinson's.

Here are links to studies regarding a connection between the use of lyrica and dementia:

Gabapentin - being linked to increased risk of dementia

According to a large scale observational study published in the journal "Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine", patients who received frequent gabapentin prescriptions were significantly more likely to develop dementia and/or mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
Researchers analyzed anonymized medical records from tens of thousands of Americans sourced from TriNetX, a federated health research network with electronic health records from 68 healthcare organizations across the country.
They found that patients whom had received six or more gabapentin prescriptions were 29% more likely to be diagnosed with dementia and 85% more likely to be diagnosed with MCI within 10 years of their initial pain diagnosis.

@georgescraftjr

Sorry. The links I sent address the use of gabapentin.

Here's one that addresses lyrica and also discusses possibilities of heart failure.

IRC without looking it up 600mg per day is the maximum recommended dose for Lyrica/PreGabalin.

@georgescraftjr I appreciate this information.
However, the one time I was prescribed Neurontin in a 900mg dose-it made half of my head numb for hours.
I was not introduced to Lyrica until years later-and in small doses. It never was a problem.
I have had 2 MRIs done of my brain, the last one in 2024. No voids nor other signs of dementia. I attribute a long history of being a professional horn player as well as recreational video games and plenty of science fiction.
This is just ‘me’. My dad was a concert pianist who lived to 91 - dementia-free.
My mom never took Lyrica, but consumed pounds of chocolate. She lived to be 83, had type 2 diabetes and two bouts of shingles. She suffered from dementia - only recognizing family members. A massive brainstem stroke made her vegetative. She passed the next day after the family voted to discontinue life support.
Again, I repeat: I am Not a doctor and we are all differently made.
So far, a high dose of pregabalin makes it so I can walk a lot better, despite lumbar stenosis.
I rest my own case.

I am happy that you are doing so well on Lyrica.

You are also fortunate to have had a career as professional musician-- and a concert pianist for a father.

My husband is immobile and is in constant pain despite having tried all forms of strong pain medication. He also has Alzheimer's. vascular dementia, Lewy Body and Parkinson's. Music is the only thing that gives him any pleasure. (One of his daughters is a Berklee College graduate, his son has a music school and is a film composer and his daughter-in-law is a concert violinist.)

Hope you have many good years ahead.
