First PSA test after radiation for intact prostate?

When is the first PSA test normally done after radiation for intact prostate? How is the result interpreted?

@jc76 mine didn't because he said I was too close to biopsy to get a good picture.

My PSA was taken in January of the year I was diagnosed. They did not do PSA checks after biopsies as PSA would reflect the damage and irritation done to prostate during biopsies. I did not have another PSA until 3 months after my last radiation treatment.

If he advised you that did not do a prior PSA as to close then I am confused why he would do a PSA during your treatments. That would just reveal the irriation prostate was undergoing at the time.

Not a medical doctor and there maybe reasons way beyond my experience with this but I don't think many posters had PSA done during their radiation treatments. The prostate is going through WWIII and is going to have a high PSA to reflect it.

Did your R/O, urologist do a PSA test at 60 days? Then you posted "they tested too soon." Was that their conclusion or yours? Again my UFHPTI R/O scheduled me for my first post radiation test at 3 months. I was told if the treatments worked the PSA would steadily come down but might not reach the bottom until 2 or more years.

The were right on and at 2.5 years my PSA is .12 That was from 3.75 prior to radiation treatments. I did not have ADT as my Decipher came back low risk. Since I have a prostate I am going to have PSA and I was told to expect bumps up and down which were completely normal. And over the 2.5 years had 2 bumps of very low numbers and all rest were going down.

Mine was at 60 days. And PSA went from 9.0 to 11.96. (They tested too soon)
Since it dropped to 4.8 at 9 months. Felt great. Then at 12 months 6.2. It held there for 6 months. (bounce) It's since gradually dropped to 3 at 20 months.
Point being it the decline you want. But radiation without adt can be a bumpy ride.

My first PSA after radiation was 3 months.
I was on ADT at that time and started daily doses of Turkey Tail tea.
I quit ADT 9 months after radiation.
I try to avoid stressing on upcoming tests.
As a main character in the movie "Bridge of Spies" says when he is asked if he is worried, his response is "Would it help?' I strongly recommend that movie. Tom Hanks plays the lead and is great in it!

@bearcat998 Let me try, and you can correct me if my understanding isn't right:
1. You didn't have a baseline PSA test because it was too close to your biopsy. [In my case, the PSA test ordered by my PCP and it's result triggered my referral to a urologist. The urologist ordered another PSA test about three months after the initial test. The two tests confirmed elevated PD as; I should have a biopsy.]
2. Sixty days after radiation, you had PSA test that you indicated was too early. Did you have a PSA test result of "9.0"during radiation? And it rose to "11.6" sixty days after radiation?
3. At nine months your PSA dropped down to "4.8" but bounced to "6.2" on the 12th month and stayed there for six months.
4. It dropped to "3" at month 20.
5. You indicated that radiation without ADT can be a bumpy ride.
6. I hope your PSA's downward trend continues, and that you will hit nadir in month 23, 24, or soon thereafter within your 3rd year post-radiation.

I'm taking note of your progress and two or three others not on ADT post-radiation, to guide me in tracking my own progress after six months on ADT (Orgovyx) then without. My oncologist indicated I might see a bounce in January 2026 (I'm four months off Orgovyx by then) then hopefully see a downward trend towards my nadir.
