@mabfp3 I just had a new splint made (had 2 previously and they never fit and still don't) though prior to that I had no problems with them. Had another made and the joint is painful, first time like this for as long as this. I wonder if it's the splint, my first night wearing it, it felt tight the second night it seemed ok. Dentist said she used a previous mold, I wonder if it's the same one used to make the splints that never fit?? I don't want to spend 600.00 on a new splint only to have issues with it. the previous splint she made barely lasted a few months.

1 ReactionI have recently developed this jaw disorder. It started when I was repeatedly biting my tongue on the right side and my cheek looked swollen. I found I could correct that by opening my jaw really wide until it popped and then the tongue biting stopped. But then on one occasion my jaw locked and it took great effort to close it. I saw my doc and I have arthritis in the jaw joint on the left side. I now am careful to not allow my jaw to open so wide, even when yawning. I still get clicking and occasionally I see I am biting my tongue so I open my mouth only until it clicks, not terribly wide and that takes care of it.
I see this as one more issue of aging that just needs to be dealt with.
I wish you good luck.
Donna
I also have arthritis in my jaw joint same here with the ageing thing, this last year or so everything seems to have hit. age wise /health wise
@tisme I agree, because these night guards (splints) are expensive! I have had two or three of them made. I guess it is my own fault that I forget to wear them off and on. Then they get very tight. My dentist just shaved parts of it off and it seemed more comfortable. The kind I have can be put in hot water and then it can be molded when I put it in but I haven’t tried that one yet!
got those ones that can be put in hot water, I find them too big no matter what I try. made for sports I suppose not tmj etc.
@mabfp3 and even worse if they trigger the jaw joints, ive not had this jaw pain before with splints dont know what the dentist has done.

You should go back to your dentist. They can reshape in the office it to fit better.

1 Reaction@JustinMcClanahan I havent had much pain until recently when the dentist made me a new splint for my upper teeth/jaw , only wore it once , since then I am in pain all day in the jaw joints. I found out she used an old mold thing. I cant afford to fight her about it so I am stuck like this.
@sandrac I have been back a few times to this dentist , wont be going back, she has made a total mash of it.
never been as ill as I was today , jaw pain ++++++ headaches even nausea.
