A drug patent is typically good for 20 years from the date of filing. However, the effective market exclusivity often lasts 7-12 years due to FDA review times and potential extensions. Additionally, companies may not bring a product to market until a significant portion of that patent period has elapsed.
Apixaban, the Eliquis generic, is not sold in the US pharmacies only outside
of the US. Americans can get it through Canada, etc.

@leeman25 I have been getting the generic version through a Canadian pharmacy and it has been great. No issues whatsoever. And the price through that source is very inexpensive.
