All pain gone after one "test"

Woke up for the first time in years WITHOUT PAIN
My friend has always told me, "If you wake up one day without pain, you know you for sure you're dead!"
Fortunately it was not true.

I have suffered from Chronic pain in my lower back for the last 6 years which started after I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Initially, Steroid injections in the back helped.
After a few years, the injections eventually stopped working after a few months.
Then I was treated with RFA (Radio Frequency Ablation of the Medial Nerve)First with a hot needle (90 deg C) in 2 locations which lasted for 2 months.
Secondly with a cold needle (60 deg C) in 8 locations. But now the pain changed to a burning sensation "in a wide belt" inside my lower back for 4 months.
After that I have been in pain constantly with varying intensity plus feeling inflammation in all parts of my body.
Therefore I have been "treating" myself using finely ground Turmeric, Cinnamon, Ginger, Vanilla, black pepper and honey as a thick slurry. Taken as a tablespoon every evening before bedtime as it is supposed to be good against inflammation. I have felt some relief but nothing significant.

NOW
As a Chemical Engineer I started looking at the nature of inflammation and compared it to the active ingredients in my cocktail. And it turned out that it should work.

HOWEVER
Without getting too technical, the inflamed areas were in zones of a fatty nature which are hydrophobic (repels water - like water droplets on a goose)
At the same time, the active ingredients in my cocktail (except for honey) are also hydrophobic.
SO the cocktail had little effect because they were not properly dissolved and released as the stomach fluids are the opposite of hydrophobic = hydrophilic.
In other words the active ingredients went down the toilet.

Alcohol
It turned out that the active ingredients in my cocktail powders would easily dissolve in Alcohol.

So to make a long story short
I dissolved one teaspoon of each spice (but only a 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper) with a table spoon of honey in a double shot of Rum.
Stirred it for some minutes and enjoyed it.
The next morning; I WAS PAIN FREE!
I was laying in bed looking up at the ceiling enjoying every minute of it.
After going for a swim in the afternoon, I began to feel slight pain or rather tension but only 10% of usual.

The day after (at the time of this writing) I have only minimum pain, or rather a tension in my back.
I realize my test only represents one datapoint, but it is a good start with an unbelievable outcome.

MY NEXT APPROACH
I have already made a bottle of slurry (same ingredients) but using only enough alcohol to make it flow like a thick slurry for the purpose of limiting the alcohol intake.
I plan to take one tablespoon of slurry in the evening before bedtime.

DISCLOSURE
I am 6 feet, 216 lbs. and enjoyed not only one but 3 cocktails that evening. So the medical term could suggest I was under anesthesia when I went to bed (in leigh man terms: DRUNK)
I am not suggesting anyone do as I have done, and also check the side effects of the spices in the cocktail.

I feel for you, my life has been hell too.

I hope it will work for you too.
Today I am still ok, crossing my fingers.
Went to my favorite restaurant, even with the 300 m walk I didn't feel pain.

I don't know if the overdose of 3 double shots devestated the inflammation, but last night I only took the a big gulp of the slurry.

I did add a teaspoon each of organic coconut oil and olive oil, because it enhances the extraction of the active ingredients AND is compatible with delivery to the fatty zones that are subject to the inflammation.

I forgot to mention that my PAIN WAS related to nerve damage ONLY.

The 3 surgents that have evaluated me could not find mechanical damage and all said surgery was not a solution.

@mrmik That is an amazing story. I am sure that many commenters here on Mayo Clinic Connect are racing out to their local liquor store to pick up a few bottle of rum. LOL. Seriously, I am impressed at how you tackled this problem from a scientific approach. What was your pain levels before and after taking your "cocktail"? You are spot on when you said that if most of us here were to wake up pain-free and believe that we must be dead. May you continue to remain pain-free!

@heisenberg34
Thank you, so far so good.
But please notice I have cut the amount of alcohol way back and added a little bit of olive and coconut oil to the 750 ml slurry bottle.

One teaspoon each, but only 1/8 of black pepper (also finely ground)

The black pepper amplifies the effect of the Tumaric by 2000%

DON'T LEAVE IT OUT

@mrmik Thanks! My wife just ordered the turmeric and vanilla bean powder. I don't drink, so I may have to beg some from our neighbor. Something like vodka that has almost no taste and can be mixed with grape juice or orange juice. Just so I get this right, take all the ingredients in the amounts given and mix it with honey until I get a thick slurry. Then add a tablespoon to several ounces of the vodka/OJ mixture? If this is incorrect, please give me your precise recipe, including all necessary steps. I don't want to mess this up. I realize that it may not work for me, but I want to get it right. Again, thanks for sharing.

@heisenberg34

The recipe in my original post worked, I don't have the exact amount of liquids in my latest thick slurry.
Note: You don't have to use rum, any 45 to 50 alcohol will work.
Oils should also work for extracting the active ingredients.
Here I lean toward Coconut oil because it should have a higher degree of tissue penetration.

Too much and I would stay close to the bathroom.

By the way Orange Juice will dilute and have a negative effect on the extraction.

By the way I have no idea if the honey has any effect on the overall outcome.

Also I also think the approximate 0.3 alcohol in my blood could have had a positive effect transporting the active ingredients around in the body to the inflamed areas.

I'm not advocating anyone should get drunk though.

Thanks for the heads up about the orange juice. I’m getting all the spices so I can make the concoction. I guess I’ll do a couple of days in case one shot doesn’t do it. Thanks for all your help.Chris

Keep in mind that you get quite intoxicated.
My intake which resulted in the ZERO pain condition contained approximately 250 ml 45% alcohol.
Equal to 1.6 ml per pound of body weight.

Well said, thank you.

AND the readers should also realize my observation only represent one data point.

Meaning a lot of testing is required to develop a safe commercial product.

One important detail that needs to be understood besides the safety and potency of the "spices" in the cocktail when extra when extracted with alcohol.

Also is it necessary to establish a 0.3 % blood alcohol content for effective delivery of the active ingredients to the inflamed areas in the body?

Whiskey used to be used as medicine. Grandpa used it for respiratory illnesses. Dad said he got a jigger of whiskey every night on his dinner tray in the Army hospital where he was recovering from brain surgery in 1944.
