Has anyone experienced incontinence after HOLEP surgery?
I recently had HOLEP surgery at the end of 2024. One of my main issues nine weeks later is incontinence or leakage. Been doing kegels but it still persists. Has anyone else experienced this and for how long?

I’m sorry to hear the after effects you are going through thru , I wish’s the medical field would be more honest with all of us with prostate cancer , I was led to believe if you catch it early it’s very treatable but rarely totally curable. Forgive me for adding a question why I posted a few days ago about taking Viagra and Bimix at the same time time and post is gone ? Tried to contact someone but no luck
@rwinpa I had the exact same symptoms for 3 months, I was going thru 6 pad during the day and then not leaking a night but had to get up and pee at least 3 times during the night.
The problem was that a crust from bladder stone crystals had formed in my prostate valve opening and wouldn’t let the valve fully close with the extra pressure while standing and walking around. My surgeon suggested that I take Stone Stopper and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda 3 times a day to dissolve the crust. I test my urine PH with PhTest strips and try to keep it at close to 7 as possible. Taking the alkalizers made the burning sensation I was having since the surgery go away. After about a week of taking alkalizers the crust broke free and I began healing using 1 less pad every week. It took 6 weeks to fully heal to the point where I wasn’t leaking anymore. Then I started on retraining my bladder to hold more fluid before having to pee. 5.5 months post surgery now and I’m sleeping thru most nights without
getting up and the volume is steadily increasing. I peed 500ml this morning when I got up, that’s over 16oz, I haven’t done that since I was in my 40s, I’m 70 now.

1 Reaction@elcorbs I’m going on 13 months and still wear pads, mostly due to stress incontinence but probably also the alcohol/spicy foods. I’m making an appointment for pelvic therapy next..
@anyheading I had to quit coffee, alcohol and spicy foods which I love because of the excessive leaking. This HOLEP has been life changing in not a good way. Hopefully my kidneys continue to function for another 20 years plus.

1 Reaction@elcorbs I had Holep done 6 mons ago. No pain, bleeding or anything. I have had incontinence since day one. I started right away with a Pelvic PT. She has been a great help. I started with 3 depends a day. Now down to one light use pad for the am hours after I drink coffee with the boys. Not giving up the coffee!
Anyway, incontinence is getting better by the month. Stay positive and do the keegles. She did feedback therapy to teach me how to squeeze properly. Anyway hang in there

2 ReactionsI had a TURP about 7 years ago and I am still Incontinent from what my urologist said It will never change. By now I have found diapers that work that do not leak.
@curley3 Has the urologist talked to you about an (AUS) artificial urinary sphincter? I had a holep 8 months ago, still leak. The urologist has suggested looking into an artificial urinary sphincter surgeon. I don't know what to do. I have gotten better with the leaking since the procedure but no where near where I need to be. I think after one year things are unlikely to get any better. I have tried guards, diapers and a clamp that I dont like. I am looking into a top hospital for this AUS thing. Anybody have any suggestions out there?

MAYO
Had a urine sample and CBC done about 3 weeks ago. Went to the doctor to go over the results 11/11 and the doctor said I have another UTI. I knew it, but was prolonging it as long as I could hoping my body would fight off the infection. I am back on antibiotics for the 7th time since my HOLEP procedure last December 3rd. This is so frustrating. After 18 months of waiting I finally have an appointment with a Nephrologist in January and maybe the she can find out what is causing these infections. I went to see an infectious disease doctor and he told me the UTI’s were from the scar tissue from the HOLEP. How long will I have scar tissue that causes UTI’s?
