From my personal understanding, there are 2 main reasons to take Eliquis or some other similar medication. 1 is if you are experiencing Afib which can cause the formation of blood clots and 2 is based on your age and if you may be at risk for Afib and/or how you score in the CHA₂DS₂-VASc Score for Atrial Fibrillation Stroke Risk. You can do your evaluation here:

I had a pacemaker installed 9/2023; and had an ablation 4/2025 to stop me from passing out--which happened once while driving. My cardiologist apparently wants me (76) on Eliquis for life. Recent spine surgery, where I think I experienced internal bleeding, now being looked into, Very painful recovery; not done yet. I think too many M.D.s see Eliquis as "no risk". Taking a blood thinner for life creates potential serious complications for emergency care. One should be very careful with their use. I will bump that up going forward. That said, it's a Cadillac ride, other than the fact I think it contributes to making me urinate frequently at night.
