Evenity and side effects: What helps joint and muscle pain?

Posted by rjkesal123 @rjkesal123, Feb 13, 2024

Hi All,
I received my first Evenity injection two weeks ago. Everything was going well, did not even have injection site pain. But the last couple of days I have had joint and muscle pain especially in my neck and upper back, Lower back and arms. I've read the drug peaks around 7 to 14 days. I am wondering if this is normal, has anyone else experienced this and if these side effects subside? Is there anything you take before or after the injection to relieve this pain? It is very uncomfortable. Thank you!

Thank you..it's quite the journey of not knowing and not knowing. My dad always said, "I never told you it would be easy, honey. " Take care 🙂

Sending out an instant karma to all of us who are suffering today. I know this is minor compared to what others may be suffering from, ie: cancer or any other major illness..,.I keep asking myself, is it REALLY worth it ?! Maybe gains, but so much pain. Something smells rotten in Denmark 🇩🇰 as the saying goes …

I’ve only been using Tylenol for the joint pain, and taking other palliative measures to address each new & existing pains, aches & issues. Ice, heat, rest & kindness to yourself help somewhat…I feel like recently I’ve become an old lady who needs help even just walking.
My new symptoms are weird; a pervading dizziness - not bad, but weird. Letting other people in your life know what you’re going through helps. Asking for help & understanding that this will be your reality for a while is helpful ?
I wish I had more to offer. Best of luck & keep sharing 🪬🧡

Just a question …does everyone in here report their side effects to Amgen ? I’ve noted that a quite a few do. Just wondering if this is something that’s worth my time & effort & should I be doing this.

Hi, I have started taking Celebrex twice a day, starting the day before the injections and then for 3 days total. I think it has made a big difference for me. It is by prescription. I also flood myself with water and I think that has helped at well. The nurse said Clariten helps some people, I have not tried it.

I have completed my 12 months of Evenity! Yay. Great gains. Left femur still at -2.7 on DEXA, i think -2.5 and above is osteopenia, and everything else is in the osteopenia range.

The endocrinologist I go to told me to take 1000 mg of Tylenol and 1000 mg of calcium the day i received the injections and for two days after that. I had no side effects from my injections.

I had my first shot around the same time at the end of January. This is day 17. Each day, I expect the serious side-effects to start.
So far I've had the injection site swelling and pain that lasted for 24 hours. Before the first set of injections, I drank A LOT of water and took a Tylenol. That may have helped. I plan to do it everytime, and to keep my fingers crossed.
Over the last week, I got a cold sore--first one in many years, and I've had a huge change in appetite. I'm hungry all the time. Has anyone else experienced that? I doubt it's unrelated. I usually have to force myself to eat. At least the hunger is making it easier for me to pack in loads of nutrients.

So far, I have completed 5 of my 12 monthly Evenity injections. With each injection, I was also getting more (not my usual) muscle and joint pains - even while I was sleeping / resting. (I had also just had spine fusion surgery - along with years of arthritis which added more to my body trying to keep up & repair itself). My calcium levels (taken before each monthly injection) were going up and down. With this last injection, my nurse said my calcium levels were still heading in the wrong direction & if I was just relying on my food intake, that it is nearly impossible to get enough calcium. I went home & did my research. I have now switched from taking just my my usual "Daily Senior Multiple Vitamin" (w/calcium of 288mg/22%DV/Vit D of 1,000IU) along with 1 Vit D capsule (2,000IU = 375%DV total) and "an occasional Tums" for more calcium, to ditching both the occasional Tums & the Vit D capsule. Currently - each morning after breakfast - I am still taking my usual "Daily Senior Multiple Vitamin", but I have also added a "Calcium Dietary Supplement Tablets" (600mg calcium / 800IU Vit D). Then later in the day - with my next big meal, I am taking a second "Calcium Dietary Supplement Tablet"). This has brought my total guaranteed calcium & Vit D levels to a basic & steady 1,488mg (114%DV), and my Vitamin D levels lowered from 3,000 to 2,600 IU (325% DV). So far - in my case - this has done wonders for my unusual & unexplainable overall daily joint & muscle pains (except for my one knee, but I know that knee hurts due to it being diagnosed as being "bone on bone" & I am just waiting until after I finish with my 12 months of Evinity & for my spine surgery to finish fusing before I deal with my knee). Also - very important to remember - is that - since we all have different needs - to be sure to check with your doctor or infusion nurse to get their recommendations on what your particular needs might be.
