Borderline Tumour on Fallopian Tube
I was diagnosed with Stage one TNBC (Triple Negative Breast Cancer) in December 2024, had a bilateral mastectomy in January 2025 followed by 6 months of chemo. I also tested positive for the BRCA1 gene so had an Oophorectomy (removed both ovaries and fallopian tubes) 6 weeks ago. At my follow up appointment with my Gynaecologist they told me that they found a 10cm borderline tumour on my fallopian tube, which is extremely rare so he said he had to refer me to someone else who was a specialist (Gynaecologist Oncologist). He said he couldn’t answer my questions because it’s so rare… Today the Oncologist office called and booked my consultation for next Monday. They did offer me the option of a phone appointment which I gratefully accepted. I’m trying REALLY hard not to freak out and staying positive. In my experience, if it’s really bad news, they make you come in person… at least that’s what I like to think so I don’t go insane.. Anyone else have this situation or can offer me some insight? I’m scared I might need more surgery 🙁

@tnbmama47 after everything you have been through, it is understandable that you are nervous. If it was very serious you would have been called in to the oncologist’s office so consider the phone consult a good sign.

2 Reactions@tnbmama47 From what you've shared it's been a difficult year for you. It makes sense to me that you are very anxious about the consult coming up on Monday. Fortunately, Gynaecologist Oncologist will have all your medical records and imaging and will look at those before the phone call. Yes, I'd think too that calling you by phone instead of a face-to-face visit is good. Like you, I'd still worry about what that phone call will be like. You can't predict what the doctor will say but you can spend some time preparing yourself with questions you might have. Here is what I do when I have consults.
I think through what I don't know and what I would like to know. I write this down in a notebook that I bring to all of my appointments. I then take notes while I'm talking to the doctor. In my face-to-face visits my husband is usually in the medical office with me. This is helpful because there are often things I've missed or did not think to to ask so he is the second pair of ears in the room with me. Is there someone who can sit in on the phone call with you? You could put your phone on Speaker so that you and your supportive partner can listen and talk.
What would you like to ask?
