Gastrointestinal issues while on prednisone or kevzara?

Posted by caroljeand @caroljeand, Nov 2 1:37pm

Is anyone dealing with serious gastrointestinal issues while on prednisone? I’m on 10 mg prednisone and taking 40 mg of pantoprozole to counteract the stomach upset but isn’t really working.
I could use any suggestions because the growling stomach and discomfort is keeping me up at night.
Also has anyone on kevzara experienced stomach issues?

@caroljeand 20 mg. Mid day. I take my Prednisone before bed and I think that has helped me.

I took famotidine for a long time.

As I recall, I took ranitidine until it was withdrawn from the market due to safety concerns.

@dadcue
My doctor just ordered 20 mg famotidine to take at bedtime as well as the 40 mg of pantoprozole before lunch. Hope this is a good plan!

Did you have stomach issues before you started on prednisone? My stomach has always bothered me and its worse on prednisone. I take pantoprozole when I feel an esophogeal spasm coming on. (Those are horrid!) But yes, the prednisone upsets my stomach pretty much daily. It does not keep me awake unless I have a spasm. But the pantoprozole seems to help.

I think I did have stomach issues before PMR because I would wake up at night with a growling stomach. I’ve probably always had excess stomach acid so yes, the prednisone has magnified the issue. 🫤
