@thisismarilynb I can relate to the former self believing everything that was told to me! Boy was I naive!! How long were you in the hospital with scarlet fever?? That must have been truly terrifying, especially at the age of 10. You are a survivor, that’s for sure! You’re also quite an inspiration! I bet you have many fascinating stories to share. Do you enjoy any type of exercise, whether physical or mental? Im also curious what your diet is like, if you dont mind my asking?

Hard to remember how long I was in the hospital, but I think it was 3 weeks to a month. I know I was in the 5th grade, but even though I missed a lot of school, they didn't keep me back.
I was a race walker for many years. I stopped at the track at Cal Tech, which was on my way home from work, and did several miles each day. I retired at age 67. We moved so I didn't have a track available. That is when I became a street walker. (That is a kind of a joke.) While this kept me healthy and in good physical shape, it also wore out my right hip. So in 2021, at age 87, I had it replaced. This was shortly after my husband had died, so it was really rough, but I survived again. I read a lot and do crossword puzzles. I eat only what I like. I have never liked sweet tasting things, so very little sugar. I also eat very little dairy because I do not like the taste. I have breakfast late. Not the so-called normal breakfast. I make grits, bulgar, lentils, etc. For me it is just a hot breakfast. I have never been a snacker. I do not drink coffee because it has too much acid for me. I drink plain tea. By that I mean I do not add sugar, lemon, milk or honey. Then I have dinner a little earlier than most people - like about 4:00 P.M. A couple of years ago I had a long appointment with a nutritionist. He went over every thing I ate and what supplements I take. He told me I ate fine, but too much. So he gave me pictures of what a normal portion looks like. I have tried to follow his advice and so far have dropped 20 lbs. I have fallen off the exercise wagon now I am afraid. I really should walk more, but I don't. Yes, I do have a lot of memories. My husband and I were able to do a lot of travelling. At first when our boys were young, we had a tent trailer and travelled all over the U.S. and Canada with them. When they got older, we switched over to cruising. For many years we took luxury cruises. We found they were not that much more expensive because you pay for everything up front. So even the excursions were included. We went everywhere, from the Arctic to the Antarctic and all inbetween. Now at 91 I guess I am in a holding position. You can't know how much longer you have, so I am just waiting.
