woojr, ask for a scalp biopsy and settle this itch problem. Scalp itching and rash happen at any age. Things left untended make people a little crazy or at least desperate.
Is your mom having regular bloodwork to assess cortisol. And D3 status as well as B12, not for the itching, but for your perceived difference between old and really old.
The itching isn't from age. The struggle to find remedy speaks of acuity. An anti ageing cream that restores the integrity of the skin might help with itching. She hasn't been anymore successful than you have been in finding a remedy. She may want to make you feel good, but maybe doesn't have confidence in your success and so doesn't come to you for help.
But then, we are all ageing.
Bless her heart.

@gently Hello and just an update on mom's itching. The itching moved to her lower back and some spots in the middle. After two visits to the dermatologist she has avoided telling us anything negative. My wife however does her laundry and found blood on her nightgown. Back to the dermatologist who has become frustrated herself. She's sent her back to the PCP asking for bloodwork because she believes the itching is coming from inside her blood vessels.

I'm finding several supplements she's apparently been using around the kitchen. I'll be making an appt Monday to see the PCP about bloodwork, etc. We've had a good holiday and mom tries to avoid anything negative at all. It was working well until today when I had to tell her about the bloodwork. We'll be ironing out whether she wants to go forward with the bloodwork. I think she'll want it because she's due for her regular visit in February anyway and she loves getting it done because it's usually quite good. Thanks for reading, John
