Non-drug tips on reducing anxiety

Posted by judybradford @judybradford, Oct 27, 2025

If you are looking for non-pharmaceutical tips or solutions to relieving anxiety, I have a couple:

1) Try humming quietly. You can do this in any crowd, or where loud sound is overwhelming you. Think of any song you love, and just hum it. I first learned about this from a ballet instructor, who told us to hum to ourselves to achieve a softer, more compassionate effect in our movements. It's self care through "song" but you don't have to mouth the words.
2) A weighted blanket or vest. A weighted blanket can give you the feeling of security, especially at night when your thoughts start churning in your brain and start to make you feel anxious. On the weighted vest: I often walk with one (10-15 pounds is enough) to help make my bones stronger. But one day, I noticed how it made me feel calmer when I put it on, and tightened it. It's like getting a big hug from someone.
I would love to hear any more ideas that readers may have.

Check out Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as "tapping".

There are many, many YouTube videos to help you work through anxiety of all kinds, from general anxiety to specific situations. A quick YouTube search for * EFT tapping anxiety * will give you many to choose from.

Some of my favorite practitioners are Julie Schiffman, Brad Yates, and Carol Look.

It may seem a little weird at first, but give it a try. It has helped me a *lot* since my stroke.
And believe me, having a stroke will give you plenty to be anxious about.

@ebtexas55 You're welcome.
If you *really* want to thank me, watch some of my YouTube videos.
I'm getting so few hits that I'm thinking of giving up on it.
