High glucose above 180-230 and low A1c of 5.8

Why do I have a high glucose daily above 180-230 and my A1c is 5.8?

That is unusual. I’d consult with your doctor for sure. I’d likely try a new blood meter, recheck a1c lab results and consider the a1c represents the last 3 months blood average. If the high levels are new, they’ll reflect in the next a1c in 3 months. But, I would try to get those numbers down and not wait another 3 months. Do you wear a cgm?

Definitely check a new blood meter. However, are you on any new medications - especially prednisone? Have you done scans of the pancreas - where insulin is produced? If you are younger than 30 years old - it could possibly be type I diabetes. Most are diagnosed as a child - but the limit for type I is 30 years old. Many develop type II - even from a young age. Your A1C is for the past 3 months - and they do correlate that with an approx. blood glucose. Your A1C is pre-diabetic. Watch diet, but check out other causes as well. Good luck.

I replied to this same issue on another thread, and my answer there was - if you are taking the glucose readings after a meal instead of before a meal, it might explain things!

@celia16 I don't use a cgm but I had the A1c lower than 6.0 for the past 6 months. Thank you
