Night cramps

Posted by v8auto @v8auto, Jun 7 9:33am

Hello from old England.
I started with PN a couple of years ago. So far just in my feet/lower legs.
Usual balance problems, and tight socks feeling, but not painful, thank goodness.
However, in the last week I have had leg cramps that waken me 3-4 times a night, Mainly the instep. I am starting to feel like a zombie, sleeping so badly.
I have just looked on the forum and see recommendations to take magnesium glycinate and vit B12. I shall give those a go.
Anything else that might work?
I am 73yo, 6ft and 140lb, and not on any meds. Yet!
Thankyou.

Hi everyone! All of your remedies have helped me in the past but the one preventative routine I started that seems to work is rubbing my legs and feet down with some magnesium before I get into bed. I used to buy a product called Magnesol from my naturopathic physician l but recently got a bottle of pure magnesium spray from a local salt farm. I add it to a pump of neutral moisturizer.

You may find this odd, but I often wo
Ake up with leg cramps and tried walking them off or massaging my legs until someone recommended drinking pickle juice when it happens. I thought it was crazy, but I tried it and amazingly, it's works! And it's instant! Drink about 2 ounces of dill pickle juice and let me know! They even sell mini bottles in the grocery store right next to the pickles. It's my go-to now every time!

I used to use a tablespoon of regular mustard and that works as well.

My first post!
I've had muscle cramps in my legs and feet since I was 12 yrs old (64 yrs ago). I have found some success by taking a magnesium glycinate capsule every morning between 8am and noon. When I started taking it, I took it before bedtime, but that didn't work well, probably because it didn't have time to absorb and help. I also have noticed that my choice of footwear matters. Some of my sneakers and shoes have one and a half inch high heels, others have about one inch high heels. Sometimes after wearing the higher heel footwear, my foot and lower leg muscles will pull on me, and I think it's because the lower leg muscles are compressed compared to when wearing the lower heel footwear. That half inch makes a difference! I also do some leg exercises just before bedtime, high stepping while bending at the knee, and crossing one leg over the other at the knee.

Welcome @jayarr49, Good to hear that you've found shoes that help with the neuropathy symptoms. I have a lot of problems if I wear shoes that are too cushy, messes with my balance a lot. Have you been diagnosed with neuropathy?

Greetings,
No, I haven't been diagnosed with neuropathy. My major problem now is MRI and PET scan results showing the start of Alzheimers. My father died of complications of ALZ at age 72, so I've been looking out for it for a long time. I also had a bad case of Iritis/Uveitis 4 yrs ago, and almost lost my eyesight. My ophthalmologist said that there could be a repeat that could be worse than before, and maybe permanent. It seems that all of the current treatments for ALZ have caution statements about causing vision problems, so I refuse to partake of them. I'm hoping for trials of lithium orotate to be approved for humans. I decided to share comments on muscle cramps because of having so much experience with them.
