How does your knee feel once it reaches the year of recovery?
I have heard it takes a full year for recovery of TKR. How 🤔 does your knee feel while approaching that one year mark?

I am at 10 months from TKR. The knee has felt great during the day, but I have not had a total night sleep since due to knee/leg pain. Some nights no sleep. For about a month it seemed to resolve but started again. My GP recently gave me a prescription for Pregabolin for nerve pain. It is not
helping at all. I am exhausted and can barely function. I think I need a new xray.

1 ReactionI am in my 2 years of knee replacement surgery, but still feel heavy and stiffness. Too much standing or walking make it worse. Don't see any improvement?

2 ReactionsI do have some improvements, but when I stand too much, like doing housework or cooking dinner, it gets tighter and lower back pain.

1 Reaction11 months post TKR.
Still not as good as before with bone on bone contact.
Tough going down stairs and hurts much more at end of day.
Considering revision - - at least a second opinion from a non-affiliated doctor who does revision.
All the best for those with total replacements.

Do you have any suggestion about the doctor who does revisions?
After a full year, my knee was great. I am 1.5 years out now and am very pleased with my outcome. I still have stiffness on cold mornings, but once I get moving it is fine. Keep doing the exercises and moving even when it all feels too much.

4 Reactions@rainerhans During my preop class, we were told very few people are able to kneel after this surgery.

1 ReactionI'm 17-months out. I've been told by my doctor that the odd sensation in my knee is permanent. It isn't bad. It's like a heaviness. Some mornings I awaken with a stiffness that goes away as soon as I start moving. Pretty much everyone I've met here in my 55+ community has had one or both knees done, and they are all glad they did. I wish it felt like my own knee, but I'm just happy I can walk and ride my stationary cycle without pain. The slow deterioration I was experiencing before surgery was depressing. I'm hoping I won't need my other knee done, because it wasn't easy, but I'd do it again if I need it.

2 ReactionsI had my right knee done in 2021. The healing process was brutal! My left knee is bad, but I will never go through a surgery like that again. As for the replacement four years later, I have stiffness and pain going up and down the stairs. I am okay with walking on a level surface. When I asked my surgeon how long it would take for my knee to heal, he told me “two years”! After two years had passed, and it still didn’t feel great, I mentioned the stiffness and pain to him again. His answer to me was “It will never be the knee that God gave you”. Needless to say, I no longer go to him for cortisone shots to my left knee (which no longer work anyway!). So now, I have one replaced knee that isn’t all that great, and another knee in rough shape!!! I am truly happy for all of those people who have had the surgery and have done well!
