Air duct cleaning

Posted by leisa @leisa, Oct 18 3:51pm

I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis, and a CF mutation about 2 years ago, and MAC 6 months later (not on big 3). I have been cleaning my personal space with air purifiers and water purifiers, and change out the HVAC filters, but it did not occur to me to do duct cleaning! Is this something that may stir up more trouble, or definitely something to take care of before the heat comes on for the season. Thoughts?
Thank you in advance.

@leisa , maybe those who work in that area will chime in. I’ve considered an air purifier. I need to research it. Do you have allergies?

I do use purifiers mainly because I have birds. I have read articles that say it's safer to leave as is. That said my birds have had pseudomonas so I really worry about stirring up any dust in the vents.

We had ours done. And had air testing done for molds, dusts, etc. excellent service. We did have higher than normal range for some mold toxicity so we had the house air scrubbed and treated and then had the ducts cleaned. If the hvac people doing the cleaning are professionals at it, anything that is stirred up within the ducts stays in the ducts and gets sucked out. They loses and covered the vents! And I too run air purifiers. We also put a uv lamp (NO OZONE) in our hvac system and had the filter box changed to a 5" filter box. It has helped tremendously.

Great info. Do you have pets, mainly birds, and did you have to relocate for a length of time?

@fondie we have a small dog. We just had to be out of the house while the house was being treated and for a few hours after they were done. I took our sog to spend the night at my sisters house for extra caution. We entered the house 2 hours after treated. It had a slight smell of vinegar but not harmful.
