I experienced similar pain for over two years after a fall and many bruised muscles and soft tissue. The diagnosis between the pain specialist and arthritis/rheumatologist with whom she consulted was that after the injury the nerves that send messages to the muscles never quit firing pain signals, causing chronic myofascial pain syndrome. They ruled out neuralgia. I am now on Lyrica, cymbalta (which is also used to treat fibromyalgia, a similar disease) and referred for aquatic therapy. It has helped immensely and was the first thing to really help, after 20 months of land therapy, which in many ways made the pain worse, and dry needling to relax trigger points. I would try and get a referral to aquatic therapy if there is anywhere in your area that offers it. Good luck to you. I can totally sympathize with your pain and frustration.

@sandrac my name is Charlie McLain. I was dealing with double hernia and about a month away from surgery i started getting this terrible burning, stabbing and almost unbearable pain under my ribcage front and back. I thought it was from my hernia pain. Fast forward to recovering from the hernia surgery about 3 or 4 days i noticed that that pain under my ribcage was getting worse and it kept getting more sensitive. I couldn't even put a shirt on. Now 4 months later the tenderness is almost unbearable. A fan blowing on me sends me through the roof. Gabapenton, lyrica and muscle relaxers have no affect on the pain. 7 trips to the er and family physician i got no answer. Thank you for putting this blog together. I found the answer myself and found no doctor that would prescribe any pain medication to help me. I have a neurologist appointment in 1 month and pray that they can help me with this problem. 1 more quick comment I started to use natures remedy since I am 6 miles from a state that has legal Marijuana. Minor relief for sleeping but pain management frowns big time. Now you see my dilemma? Sorry so long. Charlie McLain
