Diverticulitis and colectomy

Posted by monicajones @monicajones, May 15, 2018

Has anyone had part of their intestine removed? I have diverticulitis and sometimes I still experience discomfort and constipation.

The thought of Diverticulitis recurring terrifies me! I had two feet of my large intestine removed and still struggle with the aftermath of the surgery.

Yeah. That thought scares me as well. I’m having a colonoscopy again to see how bad things are. So we will see. Sorry you are still having issues.

I have that as well as IBS.  Sometimes it is difficult to tell which one is bothering me.  I have medication for one but not the other.  A diet free from grains has been helping me for quite some time now.  It is hard to give up grains, but I have gut pain and muscle spasms when I regularly include them in my diet.  I wondered if anyone else has experienced this?  I have a high tolerance for pain, as well.  Hope you continue healing and are able to return to your regular activities.

@sound1829 - I think your message to @mamacita may be incomplete, if you'd like to post it again. Do you also have diverticulitis?

Hi, I’m new to the group! I was searching for answers and stumbled on this page. I’m currently experiencing my second flare up within two months. It’s been a real challenge trying to figure out my triggers. I will take your recommendations on a food journal. I really believe your triggers are similar to mine. I’m literally crying tears of joy for stumbling on this page.

@greatoma - this would be a great discussion to check out for some posts that might mention how others with diverticulitis eat and/or to ask questions about how others eat or food suggestions:

Maybe it will also help people that make a journal to show that doctor .
“ this all I eat” and still have pain.

I had several diverticulitis attacks until I was told I had an abscess and needed surgery! Antibiotics were not helping. On September 24, 25 I had elective surgery and I’m so sorry I did! The recovery so far 5 weeks out has been tough! If you can avoid surgery at all please try!
