Flareups?

I'm curious to know what constitutes a flareup. I'm down to 0.5 mg prednisone every other day. Some shoulder soreness some days, others it's imperceptible. Thanks.

I once saw a patient (not with PMR) who had taken moderate doses of steroids for years. She had just gotten out of the hospital (a large well respected university hospital) where she had spent a month and a half in the ICU and 2 weeks on the floor. She came in with many complaints, the most urgent in her view was over the top fatigue.

In reviewing her hospital records, she hadn’t gotten stress dose steroids the entire admission! It’s important that you as well as your loved ones know of the importance of stress dose steroids so you (or your loved ones if you are incapacitated) can best advocate for yourself

I was in ICU for an extensive, multiple and bilateral pulmonary embolism (PE) when I was on prednisone. I never received any stress doses of steroids during that admission. The ICU doctors seemed to think I was taking too much prednisone. However, the PE was called "unprovoked"

I did receive an IV infusion of steroids during and after my knee replacement surgeries, An endocrinologist made hourly visits after my surgery and identified herself as the "medical management team" separate from the "surgical team."

I have been off Prednisone for the last 5 years. I still have Prednisone ordered "as needed" but I don't seem to need it anymore. Now my endocrinology visits are more focused on metabolic syndrome from chronic Prednisone use. My overwhelming fatigue isn't so bad anymore,

I'm on a biologic that doesn't suppress my adrenal function. I don't have any flares of PMR. All of my other autoimmune conditions are in remission and have stayed in remission. Not only has Prednisone been discontinued but at least 5 other medications that were treating prednisone side effects have also been discontinued.
