I don’t know how to find the right doctor to help me. I’ve had Fibro diagnosed by a nurse practitioner 4 years ago. She is treating me for something else and does not treat Fibro. I have increasing pain in my legs and hips. It is debilitating. Do I look for a rheumatologist, a neurologist or someone else. I should say that my fatigue is terrible and I am trying to live my life but the pain and fatigue are stopping me. Help! I need a doctor to help me with meds and coping.

@bdiederich58 I have had fibro for well over 20 years, diagnosed 18 years ago. What really helped the pain for me was Duloxetine, which is the generic of Cymbalta. I am also on Hydroxychloroquine and Imuran for other auto immune issues and noticed improvement to the fibromyalgia as well. Good luck to you!
Hi!
I have just been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I see a Rheumatologist and she put me on Gabapentin for the pain and it worked immediately!
Good luck!
After 33 years, I haven't had a single medical professional who knew enough about the disease to treat it. Most ignored it, or worse, prescribed meds withOUT knowing about it. I have taken 40 meds or so most likely - almost all failed or made me feel worse, sometimes much worse. What works for one, may not work for another. Listen to the people here, do your own research too. In the end, you will have to follow your own path though.
I just went to a new Rheumatologist and due to many overlapping autoimmune conditions one being Fibromyalgia. He instantly did an autonomic nerve sensory test because I told him that. Came back high for small fiber neuropathy so we did skin biopsy’s to confirm it. Go see a rheumatologist mine has been a godsend. However not all rheumatologist care enough to listen so don’t give up and find one that will listen.
Thank. I can’t even get an appointment with any Rheumatologist.
@fibrowoman I am finding that Rheumatologists do not want to treat Fibromyalgia anymore as it is so complicated and time consuming. I have been to two of them two years ago and did
not receive much help. Now the ones I called are not taking Medicare or either will not take
on a Fibromyalgia patient. They are sending you back to your primary to treat Fibromyalgia I find.
All my prayers & blessings to you....
