Going off ADT after 3 years

Posted by shelby29 @shelby29, 2 days ago

Been on Eligard for 3 years. History: Gleason 8, stage 3tb. Radiation and Zytiga, but had to stop Zytiga after 11 months due to heart attack. Kind of scared to quit Eligard cuz psa has been zippo throughout. However, would love to get body back to normal, i.e. build muscle, grow body hair, libido, etc. How did others do after quiting ADT injection?

My husband is Gleason 9, Dechipher .99 (he is 82) and had radiation followed by 2 years of Zytiga + prednisone and Lupron depot. We are three months away from the end of the two year treatment. Three months ago they reduced my husbands dose of Zytiga to half (500mg) because he was having so many problems. We go to the Oncologist on Thursday and will see what his PSA is then. And of course what it will be after he finishes his regime in January. We are hoping.

I've been off of ADT for about 4 years now. PSA at last checkup was 0.07. I credit my PSA staying low due to my daily dose of Turkey Tail mushroom tea. BTW it took 1 1/2 years for my severe joint pain from ADT to end.

If his PSA is Rising ask the doctor to prescribe Darolutamide. I was on Zytiga for 2 1/2 years and in that time, my PSA was undetectable for only one month. It also caused me to have four Afib events with the last one landing me in the hospital for four days With a pulse of 175 standing. After getting off of it, I had to have a metastasis on my spine zapped, So it really wasn’t a great help.

My oncologist pulled me off and put me on Darolutamide And for the last 23 months, I’ve been undetectable. I am 78 in two weeks, And I’ve been on ADT for almost 9 years.

If you attend one of the ancan.org Advanced prostate cancer weekly meetings you will find that at least a dozen people there, most in their late 70’s and 80s are on Darolutamide. Many of them, taking it as they only drug.

The reason that drug is the drug of choice is because it has the least side effects and doesn’t pass the blood brain barrier, causing brain fog Like Zytiga does.

PSA alway < .01 since I started ADT. My oncologist and urologist want me to get PSA test monthly, if hood ho to 3 months intervals forever, unless something changes.

Staying on ADT for a long-term can cause you to become castrate resistant. They might want to test you regularly to Find out when that happens. You can avoid that happening to you by getting on an ARPI it can also extend your life.

Can't take ARPI cuz of heart attack 11 m9nths after I started it.

Were you taking Zytiga? It caused me multiple heart issues, One put me in the hospital for four days. I switched to Nubeqa and It has not caused any problems at all. Zytiga is known to cause heart problems.

Speak to your doctor about it.

After taking Zytiga for 11 months, I had a heart attack and 3 stints. I was immediately taken off it.
