Has anyone been diagnosed with visceral hypersensitivity?
I have had severe esophageal pain from the top of my stomach to the back of my throat for 6 weeks. Ranging from discomfort to severe burning radiating pain & pressure. I haven’t slept in about 3 weeks. I have cut off caffeine, sleeping on a wedge pillow, mild food, lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks as I can barely eat. I did an endoscopy and the doctor said it looked normal and I provably have visceral hypersensitivity due to the fibromyalgia. He wouldn’t write for anything and told me my primary care doctor would need to. I left a message with my doctor and it was Friday so of course they didn’t get back to me. Not taking anything at the moment so if anyone has had this and could tell me has worked would be great.

sounds like U need Gerd medicine asap
My main symptoms are back pain,( due to a slipped disc) and pain behind my sternum. My chest pain is almost constant like yours. I have been able to sleep but wake up . I have known mild GORD and weak esophagul motility which was discovered on one of my many tests over the years. You might be having motility problems that can't be seen on endoscopy as this is often found in fibromyalgia patients like us. I infact did see my gastro consultant the other day and I was expecting to be signed off back to care of GP but he is keeping me on his books as I think he wants to make sure it doesn't get worse. I had visible reflux seen during endoscopy but if nothing was seen during yours it doesn't mean that your motility isn't affected. If there was no acid leaking up I wouldn't go down the ppi route for GORD. I don't take anything as the side effects for me are terrible. I am no doctor but definitely looks like you have a motility issue or are just very sensitive to the movement of the esophagus. I take gaviscon only for the acid, which doesn't help much . I can relate to your suffering. Chocolate, fatty foods acidic foods and eating just before bed is no good but you probably know that already. I feel almost every thing going on in my body especially when food slides down the hatch. I haven't quite figured out how to deal with it like you but I do know that it's highly likely the fibromyalgia and possibly a motility problem . I eat boring things when suffering like soup, drink lots of fluids wile eating and because I like coffee drinks decaf. It's easier to have easy to swallow food, high in calories.
Thinking of you in your suffering, as I write this I too have my chest pain..... What does the trick for sleeping is co codamol just before bed but this obviously isn't a long term solution.
I hope it becomes more manageable soon.
One last thought is could you be intolerant to gluten?, it might be worth going down this route even ìf you're not celiac.

@guineapiglover thank you. I’m already GF and dairy Free. It’s so strange as it came out of the blue and hasn’t gotten better. They started me on Duloxetine and gabapentin. I only had 2 nights sleep since I started 6 days ago. It’s very frustrating as yesterday I felt ok, but went out for a friends bday. I didn’t eat much and nothing that really should have bothered me but I was up at 4 am with pain and it hasn’t subsided 12 hours later. Nothing seems to help.
I haven't tried gabapentin but have had bad side effects from duloxetine. I am sorry you're still struggling with pain . I still have my sternum pain from last time I wrote. I have noticed after eating cornflakes with warm/ hot milk sort of fills me up, has a soothing effect for a while and of course it's abit of nutrition. My esophagul motility is weak and that can be painful but it has worked for me just for a short while. Porridge is another one that sort of stops the pain for a while. We are all different and what works for me might not work for you. It's odd that this symptom came out of the blue and came on suddenly. You have mentioned you haven't eaten much, I think you should just line your stomach with something as acid can still affect you even with nothing showing on endoscopy. I must admit it's pain in my esphogaus which has been really difficult to manage, I am just damping down the pain signals as best I can. Perhaps you can figure out before me how to deal with this problem.
At the mo gaviscon when bad/ warm cornflakes to give something easy to digest and sort of get the acid something to work on .
It just seems the docs are just handing out pills and getting us to work through things ourselves. I hope things become easier for you, my sleep isn't so affected at the mo but I am still knackered from this fibromyalgia flare.

@guineapiglover I have a gerd and slight motility issue myself, but I can’t take the ppi’s because they cause cutaneous lupus in me. I’m with fibromyalgia (like with child, but less favorable) and when it comes to sleep issues and brain fog, it is challenging if you don’t want to rely on meds. Anyways, I now have a CPAP for apnea, and it appears to force the acid back down my throat, and I now longer cough phlegm in the morning. Also, my brain fog is almost non existent. With no gerd riding up my esophagus at night, it is less inflamed, making it easier to swallow. Maybe this is possible for others as well. Well wishes to you!
