Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?
I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

I HAD A PROLIA INJECTION TODAY I FEEL FINE NO SIDE AFFECTS
I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis in about 2001. I tried Fosamax. I tried another similar drug from the same family which left my kidney disease worse. My nephrologist suggested I stop and I did. I am -4.5 in my hip and -4 in my spine. Prolia was suggested numerous times by my endocrinologist but I have refused. I am highly sensitive to drugs. 3 drugs have sent me to cardiac ER care for a week each. All with life-threatening BP numbers - 260/130. One was Livalo, a cholesterol drug! My endocrinologist approved physical therapy for resistance training. I have been doing it for over 2 years. Last year when I had my bone density scan, it had stopped the bone loss in my spine. Not my hip. I am headed to Mayo to try and determine how my body metabolizes certain drugs. I will let you know what I find out. End of May.
I don't know if its coincidental but my chronic back pain has worsened over the last year. In addition, my arthritis in my hips is also worse. I started Prolia injections one year ago, May 2018. Returning to osteo clinic for f/u bone density and third injection. Will discuss with endocrinologist. Will also see if Prolia has increased my bone density.
I hope it works for you! Did nothing for me in 5 years. Encronoigist has me on Tymolos shots. I hope they work.
Thanks. Will have the results on May 15th.
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place. I posted about a year ago to do with my mom and Prolia. She has had another two shots with no side effects! She may be due for a bone density scan - I have to ask.
Does anyone know about the new drug from Amgen? I asked my mom's dr. about it today as it was approved by the FDA a couple of months ago but they don't have it yet. It sounds like it's far above the other bone-building drugs in terms of effectiveness. However, who knows how long it will be until it's widely used? I think it's called Evenity.
Like a positive outcome.
Hello @hilsy,
I appreciate your sharing about the new drug, Evenity. All of us with bone-thinning problems look forward to hearing of new drugs to treat this problem.
As I had not heard about Evenity previously, I researched a little bit and found this information on drugs.com. Here is the link, https://www.drugs.com/nda/evenity_190121.html. The manufacturer also has information available but often that is harder for a lay-person to understand.
Here is a link, however, to a press release regarding the drug, https://www.amgen.com/media/news-releases/2019/04/fda-approves-evenity-romosozumabaqqg-for-the-treatment-of-osteoporosis-in-postmenopausal-women-at-high-risk-for-fracture/.
@hilsy, are you asking about this drug for yourself or for a family member?
I had to wait a year for bone density scan.
