I've recently been diagnosed with H Pylori. This came about after four days in the hospital through ER because of rectal bleeding. I'm 73 and never had any digestive issues before this. I'm making this reply because I'm curious how I got this germ. I'm also curious if I'm contagious beyond kissing. The reasons I'm seeing don't seem to add up to my lifestyle. I'm taking the antibiotics a few more days before I see my PCP. I'm not having any symptoms but I am concerned about passing it on to my wife. I'm also wondering if she gave it to me. She's the only person I've been close enough to get it. Any thoughts about passing this along orally? I haven't been anywhere anal contact or hygiene would be a cause. Thanks for reading

@woojr H Pylori is not the way you want to spend your energy after time in the hospital. I am so sorry.

Here is information Mayo Clinic has that you may want to review. It does specifically answer your question as to what causes Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection:
“H. pylori infections are caused by H. pylori germs that get into the stomach lining. The germs appear to be passed from person to person through contact with saliva, vomit or stool. They also may be spread through contaminated surfaces, or tainted food or water.”
- Mayo Clinic H. Pylori Overview: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/h-pylori/symptoms-causes/syc-20356171

I did also read that H pylori is present in about 1/2 of the world’s population, for whatever this is worth.

How are you feeling now that you’ve been taking antibiotics? I am interested to learn what you find out from your upcoming PCP appointment. Would you come back and provide an update?

@woojr this is actually something you can get from eating contaminated food. Two antibiotics should be taken simultaneously to be rid of it,
