Trigeminal Neuralgia treated with Radiation caused eye numbness

After being treated with LINAC radiation (similar to gamma knife) for Trigeminal Neuralgia, my entire left side of my face is numb including my eye. This is ongoing for 2 years now. Has anyone found a treatment to improve or decrease the numbness from the damage that the radiation causes or found any type of treatment to possibly help regenerate the damaged nerve at the trigeminal nerve bundle? Any recommendations in dealing with this numbness that often times feels like pain itself?

I have full facial numbness on the entire right side after MVD surgery with ablation. This was my second MVD on that side. My eye is also numb. Woke up 3 weeks post surgery with blurred vision, daytime drops and special nighttime drops is helping considerably. Still biting my lip and tongue a bit while eating, difficult to chew. Gaining weight is an issue, since I lost weight before surgery due to pain. Pain is gone so far! Trying not to despair, that is not a place I want to be. Has anyone had facial numbness slightly improve at all?

I’ve had PN for past 3 years, affecting mostly leg and feet. Then I had sudden onset of bilateral facial numbness that is yet to be diagnosed consistently from medical staff. Some think it is due to TMJ. Others not. It came 2 weeks before I had a tooth abscess, but dentist doesn’t attribute it to that. I had already been told a year ago that my eye had no feeling. But since it didn’t bring pain, I paid it no attention. However, both cheeks feeling like novacaine had been given and now 1/2 worn off, made me reluctantly go down the Google rabbit hole. So now waiting on upcoming Neurology appointment . Meanwhile…..I’ve found apply WARM COMPRESS to cheeks diminishes numbness. I also use a HEATING PAD at night on my leg when restless leg syndrome starts . That really helps! Oh, the surprise joys of aging! Grateful for these groups to be able to learn from others and share .

I fought TN with meds 8 years and elected gamma knife treatment 2 years ago when the excruciating pain was out of control. I experience left side facial numbness, left eye numbness, dry eye and MGD- Miebo main Gland Disfunction and lack of taste on left side. Ophthalmologist is very understanding and we have tried drops, warm and cold compresses, fish oil and monitor pressure regularly. I will accept the numbness any day over the pain of TN. So comforting to know I’m not alone. If anyone has suggestions for the strange sensations in the eye please share.

Inter. I suffered trygeminal neuralgia to rt side of face from playing a lot of saxophone. I damaged the middle nerve between ear and top teeth up to center. Pain was severe in teeth so I sore a few dentists who found nothing wrong. Finally my gp diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and put me on strong pain killer, cabamazepine. An MRI showed a rising artery on outside of brain was rubbing on the nerve. I found out that vitamin B12 makes nerve insulation so started taking 250 micrograms METHYLCOBALAMIN . Stopped cabama because it damages liver . Pain in teeth stopped after a few days . Was 82 when pain started.
Good luck with plenty of methylcobalamin (B12).

@margesil .
Nerve insulation is made by vitamin B12.
Alcohol stops absorbtion. Take plenty B12 in form of METHYLCOBALAMIN. Worked for me, an 81 yr old.
Good luck.

Thank you so very much for the response. The gamma knife procedure currently numbs the pain. The dr who performed the gamma knife procedure estimates the numbness will last 2-3 years. My neurologist estimates life long numbness. The B12 might help me prepare for the future - whatever it may be.
