Has anyone received Tops device instead of spinal fusion (from the trial) If so how has your outcome been?

am in search of relief. had fusion 12 years ago have been to several orthopedic surgeons they all claim the same thing all we can do is fuse it ??? now have S1 L5 L4 fused, have major issues now with l4 -'l3. had disc ooze out L4 -L3 - at and pinch femoral nervve cluster going to my left thigh no fun 4 months before one these rocket scientist finally carved off the edge of the disc mercy wish that on no one but that same location has been causing me major pain past 10 years why is there not real back doctors maybe they all get kick backs from the drug companies sharing the profits off of crap pills?????? well go back to college if that is all of you can do.. gees. so another doc wantded to jamb like a mini jack in to my vertabrae but after researching this unless you are dormant it can break the bones off that stick off you vertabrae .. That is what I am wondering about this device from premia it looks very similar in function. so after placement you take a slip of a fall the impact can break the bones off around the vertebrae how many people do you know that has premia device ???? looking to get my life back..............

I just joined this group, and can't offer any real advice, BUT---I too am very interested in the premia TOPS procedure. At the moment, the drs I am dealing with are gung-ho to do a lumbar fusion at L4 & L5, as I have advanced spinal canal stenosis, and grade 1 degenerative spondylolisthesis. In other words, they want to put a lot of 'hardware' in my spine and I am not keen about it. They say that I am not a candidate for the TOPS procedure because one of my vertebrae in the lumbar region ( I forget which number it is) has slipped forward. I sent all my records like MRI etc to Mayo Spine Center in Rochester, but they say it will take 7-10 days before they can get back to me to schedule a consult. I would just like their opinion on my situation before I give in and have the fusion. A couple of their drs at Mayo are authors on a research paper regarding the TOPS procedure. Wish the docs would call me at least for a tele-consult. Best of luck to you, friend.

Apparently, according to a local spine surgeon with Sutter Health here in Sacramento, California, I’m an excellent candidate for the TOPS procedure as described by Premiaspine. I’m interested in anyone’s experience with the TOPS procedure…

I am also in Sacramento area. Assume you are referring to Dr. Schrott or Hong. Did you ever proceed with the TOPS procedure. If so, how did it go?

Hi Kathy. Yes, those are the doctors. I'm actually a patient of Dr. Hong's; not interested in going with Schrott. We have not yet scheduled the TOPS but I remain a good candidate per Hong and my MRI from 6/25. I did hear from his office that he has 2 or 3 procedures scheduled in the near future which would bring his number to between 10-15. I have to put it off as I'm looking at an ACDF and a MTP joint fusion first, and I need to change my insurance during open enrollment next month to ensure I'm covered for TOPS (that's a whole different conversation).

If you go through with it, I'd love to hear about your experience. Likewise, if I get it done first, I'd be happy to correspond. If you're comfortable using ChatGPT it will give you a good side-by-side comparison of TOPS and a TLIF. It's the adjacent segment disease that's unsettling.

I have severe spinal stenosis and have been recommended to have a fusion of L4/L5/S1. While at the Mayo Clinic this week, I was told in is possible that the surgeon would do the TOPS procedure, which looks like it would give me much more movement in my lower back. Wondered if anyone else has had this and could tell your experience with it. The nurse told me it would be up to the surgeon, whether or not they would perform that procedure. I’m not sure how to determine whether I’m a good candidate for it and thought others might have some insight into that.
