Controversial medical diagnosis: overactive gallbladder (hyperkinetic)
On and off stomach issues for over 10 years. Currently: upper mid and upper right abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, belching, burning lower and mid chest, and occasional pain in back, right shoulder. Working with a Mayo gastroenterologist since November 2024. Had a HIDA scan in 2018 that showed a 97% EF. Nothing was done at that time, and I didn't understand the results. After reviewing my medical record recently, raised this as an issue with my doctor who reported that 97% isn't an issue. I've had gallbladder ultra sound, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, 2 CT scans and blood work - all normal. I read online that "overactive gallbladder (hyperkinetic)" is somewhat of a controversial diagnosis, but I'm wondering if there are other doctors in the Mayo system who typically consider this as a possibility or if this has been widely debunked by the medical community?

Hello @strun81 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. It sounds like you have had this problem for a while now. I'm sure you are looking forward to good results after the surgery.
Is your surgery already scheduled? Do you know if the surgeon will be doing an open surgery or a laparoscopic surgery?
