Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jul 1 10:27am

I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

I was just wondering if anybody has used ice slippers from Amazon and did they work for you? I also wanted to ask if anyone has used small doses of trazodone with gabapentin for pain relief and if so, could that work for you? Thank you for listening. Hope to hear something back. Carol

I recently purchased chelated magnesium glycinate from Amazon and started taking it three days ago, just 2 pills a day one in the morning and 1 at night and they have relieved my neuropathy when I go to bed at night for the last three nights. It only cost $16.37 for 240 tablets. I am 83 years old and my neuropathy is primarily in my feet probably mild compared to some, but it has helped me a lot.

2 yrs ago I injured the trigeminal nerve. It runs from jaw hinge to teeth. Pain was intense intermittently and lasting seconds. Had been blowing a lot of alto sax. Took cabama zepine , After a few dental checks my Dr correctly diagnosed it.
Some 2 months ago I started lifting a 20 kg bar vertically. Neck strain strengthened jaw muscles. All symptoms gone.
An artery runs up the outside of brain. The trigeminal nerve crosses it. It's insulating fat (myelin) had been worn away. I read that alcohol stops B12. absorption. B12 (cobalamin) makes myelin. Have not drunk any alcohol for last 3 months. And take a B12 supplement.. Please Google " effect of alcohol on myelin production "

I have just been diagnosed with P.N.
Do any of you take Curcumin and find it effective, and I’m confused as to the recommended dose.

I find that the Mama Bear cream does help my legs. It seems to eliminate the "tight" feeling in the lower legs and feet. If I fail to appy to bedtime, I can guarantee that I will not sleep soudly. I am not diaetic nor do I have pain. Just numbness and a feeling of tightness in the lower extremities. I have had ideopathic neuropathy for about 25 years,

@lvgal I have been using it on my feet, twice a day, and I can really tell the difference! (although my symptoms are numbness, tingling, and just feeling cold.....no pain.)

Yes. Fixed mine when I found out that drinking alcohol was stopping absorption of B12. B12 makes nerves insulation ( myelin) as well as blood cells. Now taking supplement and stopped all alcohol. 83 yrs. No more nerve pain.

@aldi Aldi, I have taken Curcumin and Turmeric in the past and didn't think they did much for relieving PN. I think R-ALA ( Alpha lipoic acid) helps a bit. I'm also taking L-citruline/arginine to increase blood flow. That stuff may help a bit. I've tried a lot of things. Magnesium creams on feet several times in 24 hours may also help over time. My next experiment is to put my feet on soft earth for about 15 minutes a few times a week. Dirt is where all the antibodies come from, so it may have something in it for neuropathy. Cut carbs and alcohol. My best!

I believe the answer is no, if it existed neurologists would prescribe it.

I do not think PN is primarily an aging thing. There are people in their 20s, 30s and 40s that have neuropathy. There are folks in their 80s and 90s with no neuropathy. It seems to be a complex phenomenon with multiple causes. Yes, our bodies change over time--all the more reason to not only "grit your teeth" but make dietary adjustments and find some exercise challenges that will work for you and make aging a healthy experience.

@arcuri24 Yep - so true! I'm 35 but I've had multiple neuropathies that started around age 19. Some are genetic, some are acquired. I've been thru the ringers and tried many things - SCS is the best thing for me + Gaba/Keppra 750 ER combo (trying to get off meds). Anything else anybody wants to know - feel free to ask. I've got quite the extensive experience with this and would be happy to help anyone who is in need of answers. 🙂

There is an excellent interview regarding stem cells with Joe Rogan and Mel Gibson and Dr. Neil Riordan. There is also a book that is free if you have Amazon prime by Dr. Riordan. The clinic is in Panama. I was all excited and ready to pay the $27,000 to get the stem cells. I spoke to a very honest doctor from there this morning and she told me they have not seen improvement with peripheral neuropathy.
