I also get them on occasion (Keliedescope) and they last about 1/2 hour and after that I will get a mild headache.
I wish I could tell what is the cause, I am thinking it is caused when I have been doing strenuous work and gets my neck sore.--Due to me having neck degenerative issues.

@jer22 Yes I too think neck issues related. I had nasty neck spasms post head and neck cancer radiation therapy and often wonder if this vision is some sort of offshoot of that as "Trigeminal nerve (CN V): Providing sensations in your eyes, most of your face and inside your mouth. It also allows you to chew food. "

@jer22 I think you have a good point about the neck being involved somehow, I often suffer from neck pain due to disc’s trouble as well as my lower back, I’m sure there is some kind of connection to do with all the sensitive nerves in that area.
