Looking for feedback - Lupron vs Orgovyx

Posted by dwb1 @dwb1, Oct 10, 2024

I discussed changing from Lupron to Orgovyx with my Oncologist today. I am having good results on Lupron with minimal side effects. I would like to here the pros and cons from those of you who have experienced both. Thanks!

Hi, my name is Harry. If I may, could I ask you a few questions?
Do you still have your prostate?
How long have you had your cancer?
Did you do radiation treatment(s)?
Have you tried Orgovyx or Nubeqa?

I had my prostate removed in 2023. 2 Lupron injections. In Jan. 2024, my PSA was .02. Once the 2nd Lupron wore off a few months later, my T went up to 485. I began taking Orgovyx in Sept. 2024 and January , 2025, Dr. added Nubeqa. The side effects are really affecting me. I also found out earlier this year that I have 3 affected Lymph Nodes in my upper abdomen. I stopped taking Nubeqa and now I'm going to stop the Orgovyx and try and talk my doctor in getting me back on Lupron.
Since it's been a year since your post, have you tried Orgovyx or Nubeqa? Have you tried other medication or treatment(s) that you can share? What is your health status now?
I hope to hear from you soon. Take care.

Harry

If you have three lymph nodes with prostate cancer, you need to be very careful about stopping drugs. Nubeqa Has very few side effects and almost everybody says they don’t really feel anything. On the other hand Orgovyx Has a lot of side effects since it reduces your testosterone to under 20. Switching to Lupron will do you no good, It works exactly the same as Orgovyx, Side effects are pretty much the same Because it’s the low Testosterone that’s causing the side effects not the drug itself.

Have you discussed getting those lymph nodes zapped with SBRT Radiation. If they’re accessible to do that, you really want to do it. Removing yourself from the drugs will just make the cancer spread and grow.

I had my prostate removed 15 years ago.
3 1/2 years later, I had salvage radiation because my PSA started rising.
I was on Lupron for six years and switched to Orgovyx. I’m also on Nubeqa. The two together have kept my cancer under control for over two years. The side effects have been identical, whether I’ve been on Lupron or Orgovyx.

When you stop Orgovyx Your testosterone comes back much quicker than if you are on Lupron. That’s a real advantage for most people and since both drugs do the same thing there’s no benefit switching from one to the other. I did it only because it cost me $800 less a year to be on Orgovyx.

I had my prostate removed 4 years ago. I was on Lupron for two years. I have been off Lupron for two years. My PSA remains at 0.04. My testosterone is still low < 50. I'm 76 years old. I have been injecting testosterone for about one year. The dose is .05ml. My only side effect from Lupron is fatigue in my legs. I walk four miles daily and walking is a struggle. My pace is about 18 minutes per mile.

Anyone else out there with these side effects from Lupron?

Some people do not have their testosterone come back after being on Lupron or many other ADT drugs. I’ve heard it many times. If the cancer case is not too serious then getting testosterone injections can solve the problem. If the Gleason score is too high, then the PSA could start rising quickly.

Was in a meeting today where somebody was talking about this problem. He has started taking testosterone to get it back. He actually had his PSA start rising, so his doctor is putting him on both Lupron and testosterone, A strange combination.

I have very low T (20s) as well but my DR does not recommend supplementing it. Then again I have had PC for over 12 years and it is setting in my spine , ribs, pelvic bones, pelvic walls, lymph nodes, and around my iliac arteries, (the ones leading to my legs). Yes loads of fatigue, weakness, and aches. I had Lupron, eligard, orgovix, and now back to eligard. The side effects were identical for all of them. I stay away from Firmagon!

The standard treatment for somebody that has so many metastasis is chemotherapy or Pluvicto.

Why has your doctor not done what is considered the standard for treating you? Triplet therapy is what is called for.

Do you have medical issues that prevent you from doing either of those treatments?
