Scared of Abaloparatide injection

Posted by mandie4712 @mandie4712, Oct 9 10:39am

My rheumatologist wants me to take the Abaloparatide injection ( Tymlos) but I’m terrified of the side effects. Has anyone used these daily injections so I can decide whether to try them or not.

Many people here have used Tymlos. Most people have little or no side effects. Some people, a minority, don't tolerate it well. There's no way to know until you try. It's a daily injection, so it doesn't stay in your system very long. If you had a bad reaction, then you stop using it. "Bad" does not mean you end up in the emergency room, by the way. I guess I'm saying, don't be afraid to try it.

Thank you for your reply I was scared of ending up in emergency room as i don’t tolerate any meds very well but I don’t want another fracture either as breaking my femur has left me disabled now. Did you great side effects and when did you inject yourself. I heard it can cause bladder urgency and I can not get to the toilet fast as I have to be lifted or hoisted.

@mandie4712 I have not had any side effects other than a little lightheadedness that goes away within an hour. But, reading your posts, we are in very different situations. You are clearly dealing with some really difficult stuff! I'm a 5-11 active male. My experience probably has absolutely no relevance to you.

If you cannot walk, and you don't think you will, I wonder why you wouldn't just stay on Prolia indefinitely. It seems easier. What kinds of discussions have you had with the doctor about medication options?

@mandie4712 because Tymlos can speed up your heart rate for just a little while after injecting, I find I do have to urinate a few times pretty soon after. But then back to normal.

That’s what’s worrying me as once in bed I’m stuck there. I have to be lifted out so best to ask the nurse about this problem as I can’t risk wetting the bed every night

I am also on Tylemos - I'm starting my third month at full dosage. I was on envenity for a year and didn't do anything for me except all the u usual side effects. I'm getting some from Tylmos but are not brutal but exist. I do get nauseous and this dull headache. I also get lots of leg spasms at night and the places I have broken bones I get pain like it is broken again. I see my doctor at the end of the month for the first time since I started. I'm not happy about these injections but Tylmos is my last hope to grow bone. I am 76 and just afraid of falling.

Sorry to hear this I broke my neck of femur 5 years ago when I was 54 it never healed properly so I’m now fully disabled. I certainly don’t want leg spasms or pain in bones as in enough pain now. I really don’t want to take this injection as there’s just too man6 possible side effects to it. I don’t want another fracture but I’m so depressed by losing my independence I just don’t think I’d handle side effects if I’m honest. Did it make it want to have a wee desperately after the injections as once my husband has lifted me into bed then I’m stuck there until the morning. I have so many problems 8 can’t deal wit( anything else.

I don't know exactly how you feel but with two back surgeries, knee replacement and fractured in both ankles and both wrist I can understand pain. I'm also not thrilled and I'm going to go to end of year and if my side effects tx continue I will probably stop. It's going to cost me over $2800 next year and if I'm still having issues why stay on it. I just don't know anymore. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease
