Meningioma: Anyone else? I'm frightened

Posted by pixie49247 @pixie49247, May 12, 2023

I just found out I have a Meningioma tumor from a MRI I had for something else. Doctor said they are almost always benign and am going to get an appointment with a neurologist. Anyone else have one of these. I’m getting very frightened now.

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Brain Tumor Support Group.

Just my "Google research" :Meningiomas larger than 3 cm (yours would be 3.7 cm) may be considered for surgical removal, especially if they are causing symptoms or are located in a critical area of the brain. No, a larger meningioma does not necessarily indicate cancer; while larger tumors can correlate with higher grades and aggressive behavior, most meningiomas are benign (non-cancerous) and grow slowly. The grading of a meningioma, determined by its cell appearance under a microscope, is the primary factor for assessing its potential to be cancerous, not its size alone"

If you are on FB, look at a couple of these groups. I've joined 3, and have gleaned a lot more information from them than from doctors. Meningioma Talk, Multiple Meningioma Support Group, and there are other helpful groups.

Hi, I was also diagnosed with a meningioma in the Front side of brain, about 4 month ago I had dizziness and ringing on the ear and mi migrain headaches where like 20 por month, I also noticed memory loss and trouble focusing or sometimes when speaking some words , so I had this MRI Scan and that was my diagnosis, its the size of a pea. Its scary I'm very worried about the future, if I have to get a risky surgery I don't know if I will do it ir not! But I trust God and know that he has the control in my life!

Based on my experience, I encourage folks to go ahead and have the recommended treatment, which may include surgery. The meningioma won’t go away on its own and there’s some potential for things to quickly go really wrong, as they did for me.

As I’ve mentioned here, I had a stage 2 meningioma which bled, a stroke. And the odds of a successful outcome of the surgery went from maybe 9 in 10 to 1 in 10 (the neurosurgeon’s estimate when talking to my son who authorized the surgery) with that bleed. So instead of a routine scheduled surgery, there was a 911 call, a helicopter ride from a community hospital to a research hospital and emergency surgery at 3:30 in the morning.

This was almost 9 years ago. I realize the gift I’ve been given and try to make the best use of my remaining life.

@brendakoviedo33: I assume the doctor who ordered the MRI had a recommendation after he read the report from the radiologist. What did the ordering doctor suggest as the next step?
