Hello @stesco. My husband had multiple Turbts but this only happened once. After 5 more days with a catheter his sluggish bladder was ready to work. I guess this is why they always check bladder function when that catheter comes out. It must happen more often than we know. How long until they try removal again?
I was able to remove the foley myself less than 48 hours after my recent TURBT procedure. Thankfully no issues here. I told my surgeon I was removing after 48 hrs regardless, as I had a couple of events to attend. She was fine with that, just preferred that I didn’t t remove on a weekend just in case I had issues. Hopefully all will work out for him very soon.
Mine was removed by the Doctor after 3 days. My bladder started working the next day. Only problem for me was I never fully empty the bladder. And I go to the bathroom about every 2 hours. On a couple visits to the doctor after going to the bathroom my bladder was 30-40% still full. He told me to go back on a couple meds I had. Doctor said we will look into this more deeply after my followup BCG treatments.

I had my Foley in 6 days after the initial cystoscopy & TURBT to remove the tumor. The problem was that urinating was difficult; they had prescribed Flowmax after discussion pre-TURBT, but the RX was submitted to mail order and did not arrive prior to the Foley being removed. I obtained an emergency Flowmax RX and the difference was amazing! After the 2nd TURBT for resection, the Foley was only in for one night and I experienced no issues once it was removed. This was my experience. In all of my reading, I have no idea what a normal post Foley experience is.
Same day but it was very bloody and painful. But the catheter was even more painful continuously so I had it removed early.
@jlp27
I was wondering about Flowmax. Thanks.
@stesco Prior to the first TURBT, I had mentioned a slowdown in flow, consistent with the timing of tumor formation. As part of the post RX drug regimen, they prescribed the Flowmax, (which as mentioned previously, arrived late in the game). Never having taken it before, I wasn't sure it would make any difference. In terms of urine flow post Foley removal, it was a huge night and day difference. I went from not wanting to leave the house to back on the path to normalcy. If you try it, I hope that it makes a difference for you as well.
