Does anyone experience tingling in the face/head and light sensitivity

About 5 years ago I started experiencing stabbing pain in my right leg. My doctor thought I damaged a muscle from strength training. Two months later the pain turned to numbness/tingling sensations in my legs and arms. I was directed to a multitude of specialists who’s tests all came up inconclusive and was then sent to a neurologist who’s tests also found nothing then he diagnosed me with Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy, prescribed Pregabalin and basically washed his hands of me. The 150 mg of Pregabalin at bed time does, for the most part, help unless I over exert, travel, or eat too much sodium, sugar or other triggers. My numbness, stabbing pain and tingling is not as frequent in my arms and legs recently but more prevalent in my face and head which has started to give me migraines and experiencing light sensitivity. At times it’s so bad I feel nauseous and dizzy.
My husband and I recently retired and started traveling but I’m very limited on how long I can ride in a car or sit on a plane without suffering. If I walk too much, over exert, stand too long, sit too long I pay the price. My quality of life has diminished and my marriage has suffered. I’m willing to try anything to fix this or at least be free of the Pregabalin with a more natural solution.
Has anyone experienced neuropathy in your face and head or could something else completely be causing it?

My only thought would be to get yourself to a different neurologist in a clinic that is known for its outstanding neurology dept. Perhaps someone else can suggest where. Good luck to you on getting a more thorough diagnosis. Wishing you well on getting a better understanding of what is going on.

Have you had a cervical and lumbar MRI to check for compression of spinal cord and nerve roots? Has your neurologist done an EMG/nerve conduction study of your upper and lower limbs?

Did your neurologist do a MRI of your brain?

REPLY

Yes, in 2020 he did a brain MRI with and w/o contrast. They were negative.
Thank you for responding. 😊

Thanks again for responding! I have not had any cervical or lumbar MRI’s. I have had two EMG’s with no findings.

Keep in mind that spinal issues and compression does not always show up on EMG/NCS. For example, I have severe lumbar stenosis, degenerative disc disease and neurogenic claudication which caused lower back, hips, buttocks, legs and feet pain, numbness and weakness but my EMG/NCS was normal!! My spine doctor told me that EMG/NCS does not always show spine compression affecting nerves.

Yes I have had nasty stabbing spasms on both sides of my face and around my neck following radiation treatment for cancer. I was diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia, and given cabermazapine which i was told I would have to be on for life as coming of it can cause seizures. I wouldnt therefore take it but also because I had NONE of the triggers and symptoms for TA. I thought it was peripheral neuropathy and due to radiation destruction of the myelin sheath around the brain stem. So I started taken remedies to restore the myelin sheath and it cleared away. That was several yeares ago so I cant now remember what I took but if u google myelin sheath remedies you will find help. Good luck

Thank you so much for your response. It was a great help! After googling I think I will try upping my intake of vitamins B12 and D. Also I recently started taking Alpha Lipoic Acid which was also recommended. I will also try ginseng for inflammation. Do any of those sound familiar as to what helped in your case?

I have many if not all of those symptoms. Mine started after right eye removal. It is believed a major nerve that runs from the nose across the eyelid was damaged due to large hematomas after surgery. I have been on pregambin for 3 years and HATE it!! I would do anything to be off this med. I hope you get the answers you need. It’s scary how damage to one nerve can cause nerve issues all over your body.

Thank you for replying. I’m so sorry to hear about your eye.
Are you having side effects from the Pregabalin or do you just hate being on meds as a solution in general as do I?
I would love to find a natural solution. Nerves in the face are the WORST!😫
