Cialis (tadalafil): Is it doing any good & how long to take it?

Posted by peterj116 @peterj116, Oct 19, 2024

My physio recommended 5mg of Cialis per day.
Apparently it assists with repairing/preventing scar tissue from forming (and helps with incontinence?)

How do I know it's doing any good & how long will I need to take them for?
28 Cialis tablets is $200 but I was told that the generic tabs did the same thing. $50 for 28.
So I'm on them.
For how long & what does it even do?

10 bucks? I'm paying 50. I'm in the wrong country.

I use free Goodrx.com coupons from the internet and get mine in Nevada for just under $20 for 30 5mg tablets (generic). But the deals seem to change month by month, so I always check before I get a prescription so I know where I want the provider to send the prescription. Once I have a prescription, so far multiple pharmacies have honored that same price for the refills until the prescription runs out as long as it's not some 1 month special rate. Also, although I have insurance, I don't use the insurance and just pay cash with the Goodrx coupon. Ditto for sildenafil, which I was using, but my doctor switched me to tadalafil after my recent NS RALP. I'm not a medical professional, but I think part of the reason for the switch is sildenafil clears out of the body in about 8 hours while tadalafil last until the next daily dose. I do think they're helping me with a generally increased blood flow to the penis. Since I can get it for less than $20 a month and I don't have any negative side effects from taking it, I'm going to continue taking it until my doctor tells me it's no longer indicated. However, since I was on sildenafil before my RALP, I suspect that may be never. Best wishes.

@retireditguy Do you take 5mg Tadafil? My doctor recommended that for erectile dysfunction. Seems to help if taken daily. No need to plan the activitie. I also have 20mg Tadafil for getting a good erection for planned intercourse. I sometimes masturbate every other bday but takes a little while to get erect. Not to be rude but do you have trouble masturbating??

@stevebritt006 -- I am taking 5mg tadalafil daily. Initially I was told by my doctor to take 20mg tadalafil on the days I wanted to have sex. It worked, but not as good as I hoped. So my doctor told me to continue the daily 5mg tadalafil and take 100mg sildenafil an hour before (on an empty stomach) when trying to have sex. I seem to be one of the small percentage of guys that the sildenafil seems to work more effectively for me. So that's what I'm doing. At this point I'm 15+ months after NS RARP and I'm back to pre-surgery capability. But that's a recent development. Early on I also included a vacuum device and masturbation as part of penal rehab, but I believe the sensation was impaired by the trauma to the nerves from the surgery. At this point I consider myself recovered and I no longer practice those techniques since I don't need any more penile rehab. I do continue to use the daily 5mg tadalafil and on demand 100mg sildenafil. Rather, at age 72, I need to save all my energy for trying to satisfy my wife's sexual appetite (lucky me). Best wishes.

My five cents: 52 yo, 3.5 months post RARP. Now taking 10mg Cialis five times per week snd 20mg on the other two days. Still now erection even with 20mg but there seems to be a some enlargement. My understanding is that its main purpose is to aid with bloid flow and prevent fibrosis.

I've just about finished my last box of 5mg tadalafil, with no noticeable change.
I'm thinking of asking my doctor if I should change to 20mg every other day, instead.
I've also started with the pump, but that thing's scary. What's the process? Pump until it hurts? I'm terrified of it bursting like a balloon...

@peterj116 My understanding is that Cialis is to be taken for a full year (unless you recover fully before).

The pump is also meant to draw blood into your penis. In my case it works but it does not get hard enough for intercourse. I use one hand to hold down the scrotum. It only hurts if the vacuum is pulling on it. Also, trim your pubic hair so it doesn’t pull.

I am not sure if any of the treatments actually helps with nerve healing. My impression is that you need to do all that only to keep muscles in shape and prevent fibrosis until the nerves reawaken.

I’ve been on the daily 5mg for over a year now including 20mg occasionally at night hoping to get an erection, then tried vacuum pump and injections , nothing has worked yet , 🥵

I'm also paying about $19 for 60 tablets, using GoodRX at Costco. I have never heard that it helps with incontinence, and based on my experience with that, it isn't. I take four tablets twice a week, and one on all other days, to help with bloodflow and making sure the penis doesn't forget one of its primary functions...getting and staying hard.

I take 5mg Tadalafil daily. 90 tabs are about $35. I’m hoping they’ll make returning to sexual activity after two years on ADT easier and more likely. I have unassisted partial erections but need injections for intercourse.

@stevebritt006 I’d have to want to. My libido is seriously diminished. On the extremely rare occasions that I try to initiate sex with my wife, she is a great partner but I haven’t been able to climax, so not nearly so much fun.
